SBC id help please......

I have had these motors a while, and never had any info on year, hp or what they were from.  So I took photos of the id numbers behind the alt. area.  The one reads easily, the other is pretty rough, so the small numbers aren't very legible.  Hopefully someone can help me so I know what I have......confuse

Thanks in advance.....

Interesting, I was to understand that both were 350cu.in The CMJ model came in a Monte Carlo I bought years ago, but it was put in later. I know when he first put it in it had an olderstyle "tall" 2 bbl carb on it so I thought it was older than that......... Might have to rethink that I guess!!!! When did they start casting the engine size on the block sides????? Thanks for the input.......

I thought I had seen in the past some newer engines had the displacement cast on the side of the block.....I'm sure it was on a 305......

Just checked the casting #'s and they are both the same 3970010..... found some info on another site with the suffix code being used multiple times

CMJ 1974 350 t4OO police - 4 full size
CMJ 1980 305 automatic trans. H - - full size/Camaro

Also read the post on your casting #........no luck yet?????

The CMJ block would be from an application earlier than 1977 being it has the larger style suffix pad..
The 010 casting have always been rumored to be the higher nickel content blocks..
Yes you can dig for casting dates but when Vin stampings are present count backwards 8 digits to confirm the model year..
Further Vin stamp decoding will show what model line and plant the car was produced at too..
Not that the 74's were kicking out high HP but it's kinda' cool if it's the Police motor!.
