Will this work???

I'm trying to figure out how to "brace" the floors,in 52 Torpedo back. The guy I got it from has had to cut the floor braces out to clear the late model frame. The stock braces are available but won't work. I tied in this brace to the trans tunnel, & to the inside of frame. I'm going to have to build another "outrigger" to hold the outer edge of floor & rocker panels, & this too will have to weld to outside of frame. Will this bring any noticable vibration into car??  I've got the right rear boby mount covered now & the space between new trunk floor & main floor covered in as well.

Normally those body braces are not welded to the frame. But in your case it might be ok. You might want to temporarily tak in your stock braces if you still have them around so you can weld in you floor pans. This will get your pans close to stock so things around them will still fit, like your doors. If you are doing your outter rockers test fit them to see if there is any flex lf any in the pans as your welding them in. Things end to move around a bit when your cutting out and adding so much. Do lots of measuring before and after to see whats moving where.
Oh yah.. I don't think adding a good brace will add to your vibration into the cab of the car.
Enjoy the project it looks pretty good so far!

Got back from work and after I did the first post I went of a wash.. while washing I was thinking about your car and the work your doing. In the past I have botched afew things on other cars. What was going on in those times was I had the frame still bolted to the body. Now I'm gathering that is what you have going on with your 50. If I'm not correct you have an Olds frame under your 50 body? If its still bolted while you are welding in your pans take note where you have your stands on your frame. This is what happend to me I had a car on stands with the frame still bolted on and the stands were just inside of the suspension (all four corners) Not realizing that a frame will flex some so that it will high side in the middle of the body. I welded everything in, then put the wheels back on and put it back on the ground. The frame flexes back to normal and everything in the car seems to either pop up or buckel in spots..(&%)&^ what went wrong. Well the frame will flex alot more that you think. So you might want to weld your pans in while the car is sitting on the floor on its wheels so everything will fit like it should when its all done.
Hope this helps

Rod, thanks for reply, the car is still on it;s wheels sitting up on my "full" length ramps so I can still get under it. The orginal floor braces are "toast" as they were cut off for new chassis, as I said in post, I;m going to have to build a outrigger along where the floors meet the new rocker to hold this up. I was concerned about vibration, but I don't think it will be a problem, & I'll be lining the floor with the heat & noise mat as well. The new cross bar has a 2" tab that goes up in side of tunnel for extra support. Now I can start fitting the new floor pan it, will have to start at rear seat & work forward as the new pan has a "warp" in it & won't lay down flat, no matter how much I try to get it flat!!!    Pete

Thats exactly why its nice to have it on its wheels. The new metal is never going to fit perfectly. There is allways what seems to be some push or pull to get it to line up to the old metal.  Great! Sounds like your on the right track. I'm sure there is others on here that can chime in too that have done much more than me. There is a guy years ago that told me an old saying "measure twice cut once" Good rules to live by.

I noticed your using a Lincoln weld pac a 140..180? If it is I noticed lots of flux spatter. See if you can outfit your Lincolin with some gas and try it as a Mig instead of flux core? Trust me you will never want to go back to flux.. Still very nice work!! For sure more pics of your completed work Please!

Here's a place that I have bought a few smaller pieces from. They have the stock end body braces that fit your car. These go from the edge of the inner rockertoward the frame and some of these will be used to bolt the body to frame. You might like to use these with some mods to fit to your Olds chassis. Take a look and see if you would like them?

The welder is a 100 no provision to hook up to gas, I borrowed it from a friend, but when the time comes I'll get a gas MIG. This will be my last project car[ I'm getting too old for this now] the 64 Catalina didn't need any body work or interior, just straight mechanical work, but being a southern car, that's what you expect. The 52 being a "southern Ont" car needs EVERYTHING!!! Once the floor is done I think I'll farm out the 1/4 panel work to a guy in my car club, I don't have the experience or patience or the tools for body work!!!  I did find the complete Olds. wiring harness, stuffed up behind dash & behind left frt. fender, that will make "life" easier when I get to that part.
