68 Parisienne trim tag..original car

A friend of mine, pretty nice original car, recently gave up it's 396 ....STOP YELLING !!

my friend said to his son as they were pulling the engine  " we better say a prayer,  cause this is wrong...to do this to such an orignal car"  LOL !!

He is going to keep the car all together other than the drivetrain, not sure when he'll get around to making it mobile again ???

Your friend was right, wrong, just plain and simply WRONG. I hope he goes to confession, I have no idea how many Hail Mary's this requires. no

I've been guilty of that too many times and live with that regret.

I at least know that the owner will not crush or let it go to someone unless the intent is pure.

He too, has regrets of cars of past. He had a 64 custom sport , 327 4 gear car, factory tach, got rid of it cheap because it was to rusty. Kept the tach, and sold the car cheap. Now , he is 45 , so,,,,,it wasn't a real long time ago ,,mid 80's maybe.

I hounded him for 2 years , and he finally sold me the tach, it now resides in my 64 Custom Sport.

times change.....

Thanks for posting, it made my day.no
The owners perogative 100%, but thats just plain wrong. C'mon, guys look back and cry about what they scrapped to get at a BB.
Could he have not found a 396 somewhere else? Are 396's as rare as a original 68 Parisenne with one, I think not.
Oh well, maybe the car was just a rot box basket case anyways.

Cheers, Mark.

What does "D99M40" refer to? How can you tell from the trim tag it's a 396 car?

Is there a Canadian Pontiac Decoding Trim Tags for Dummies tutorial out there somewhere?

The valve covers are bigger on a 396 and the air cleaner and fender emblems say  396   (sorry I had to)

D99 is the two tone paint divider moulding that a lot of Canadian Pontiacs seem to have, even on solid colour cars.

M40 is a TH400 but in 68 that could also have been ordered on a smaller engine that a 396 in a full size Pontiac.

...well I think he did the right thing. He needed a 396 for the Beaumont. He didn't sell the Parisienne, crush it or trade it. He has it all and if ever the day comes he wants to put it back together then he can. In the mean time the SD gets done and will be on the road and enjoyed, whereas the Parisienne would just probably be left sitting " yeah I'm going to fix it someday " . The Parisienne is not a valuable car, not a 2+2, not a optioned car. Remember the green 427 from Florida that come back up here, nobody really was jumping all over it with a 427. So again, I say good call and enjoy the 396 in the SD .

Thanks Carl S.  Based on what you told me, M35 should be TH350 transmission... but what about TP2, does that mean anything to you guys?

I think M35 is Powerglide, M38 is TH350. Going by memory once again though!

TP2 is top colour. I think 2 is black but that's not as confident a guess as the trans option codes were!

I trust your memory more than I do my own, where it's easy to get stuff in and not easy to recall.

M35 = Powerglide at this site too: www.manitobapontiac.com/darren_kellner_beaumont_web_site.htm
