Side view mirrors 1964 Pontiac

Mine are the 2 piece ones (outer body-colour "frame" with inner chrome and black painted ribbed bezels) on my Custom Sport ... I would think that they would be original.

These are two cutom sports, see how the outside  is painted ? That is a seperat part. The chrome inner edge and the rest are one part. The inner is screwed onto the outside body colour bezel.

Hmm, I think this requires a peek in the old parts book. Must have been a design change, but when it happened is the question.

Hi Neil

That's right.  The '64 custom sport NEVER came with chrome around the outside on the headlight bezels.  Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. And it was never an "option". The paint around the outside of the bezel (same as the body color) was reserved for custom sport models ONLY. If your car has chrome ,... someone definately changed them.  To car owners back in the day,..the thought was ,... the more chrome,... the better.  And EVERY OTHER MODEL had chrome.  So custom sport owners opted to snag them off "lower models" and replace them (wrong move)   Even I changed mine with the same thoughts.  But ,.... I will cover all bets on this one ,..... the '64 Custom Sport ,.. never, ever came with chrome bezels from the factory,.. nor was it an "option".  Even the lowly bottom of the barrel Strato Chief came with chrome headlight bezels.  The custom sport never did.  I'm giving 10-1 odds on this one if anyone want to bet smile.gif

Yes,.. I know there will still be those misinformed owners who will always believe that they have a "rare oprion" on their custom sport with the chrome bezels and believe that the car was ordered with them.  But,.. they are wrong,.. plain and simple.  Someone changed  them.  The owners hangin on to this belief may be the same ones that are hangin on to their 8 tracks hoping that they'll come back in vogue LOL  smile.gif

...that's what ours are, all-chrome with painted flat black inserts. You learn something new every day. I would've sworn ours were original...thanks for the info guys..

Forgot to mention,.....

You were asking about the height of my old white CS ,..
Believe it or not,... the lowered look comes from slightly sagging coil springs and a taller tire profile. In reality,..... it was only sitting 1 inch lower.  The angle of the photo also makes the car look lower than it really is.

How is the lower chrome moulding trim on your car?   Mine was butally pitted. It cost me a fortune to have them rechromed.  And even after it was done,... it had deep holes (where the pits were ground before re-chroming)  That lower body chrome is really hard to find without pits.

BTW,.. '64 headlight bezels look great on the wall with pictures inside! smile.gif It's the only momento that I have left of the old girl.  Really cool,.. take some pics of the car and frame them in the actual car bezels.   Any other CP member out there have "genuine" Pontiac picture frames on the wall?   I have a really understanding wife but I think that she may not be too enthusiastic if I tried to bolt a 64 car bumber to the couch and have dual exhaust tips underneath!! LOL  Although I think it would look cool! smile.gif

...I'll post some pics and explanation of our Air-Ride installation when we get it done. The hardware installation went fine - it's the air supply problem that's got us rethinking bigger pump/reserve tank etc. etc. Sure looks great slammed though!! I'll keep everyone posted under Chassis section...

..re the air bags, we just drove it back from our mechanic. What a difference!! New bags, shocks, ball joints etc. Not adjustable yet though as we're getting a bigger air pump...

My 61 were supplied by the dealer as there were extra holes where they screwed up, most mirrors for pontiac were Danchuck 511 I believe, I broke mine last summer and typed in Danchuck 511 and it popped up, cost was around 100.00, came from outwest, extra cost because my original was tinted, and they are on the door.
