Any Similarities from a 53 Pontiac to 55-57 Chev's

I can't find a power brake conversion kit for my car and all the kids at the speed-shops are useless unless it has a turbo. Is there another kind of car i can ask for parts for by chance? thanks guys

since you really want to put powerbrake modification, those 53-54 Pontiac have a really good drum braking system. 52 and prior is not so good as 53-54.

It's easier to fix your system and costless than putting a dual system with powerbrake. My 2 cent.

Check out www.kanter.com. they list front and rear brake drums for the 53.

you can also find it to your auto parts store, they are the same as rear drum brake like 71 chevy full size.

Ask for chevrolet 53-54 to your parts store, they are all listed for US model (series 25-27), and they don't know they are the same as a 53-54 chevy. If not available, kanter is your best source.

I think 1954 was the first year for factory power brakes (& power steering & power seats)  on Chevrolet and Canadian Pontiacs. Ya I know, I'm a nerd.gif

I'd keep the drum brakes for sure with a couple of modifications.

Dual Master cylinder from a 1970 Mustang is 100.00 new
ECI Industries mounting bracket to locate the master in its original location is 150.00

No new holes to drill, totally bolt on and the added safety of a dual brake circuit.

P/S was debuted in 1953.
P/B were not till 1955 at the earliest.(maybe later)

I don't know for the canadian model, but the US one the P/B was offered in 54, and the A/C too.
