1960 Strato Chief 2 door sedan. 24000 miles near Kincardine Ont

I drove 2 hours to see this car. Unfortunately a 24000 orig mile Ontario car isn't the same as a 24000 orig mile western or southern car. There is a lot of body fill in this car. The frame, floors and trunk have been patched. On the bright side the 261 ran excellent. It has a 3 speed standard trans and looked to be fit mechanically. Brakes and lines were all recently changed. Owner has an offer for $3000 and will sell it to this guy at the end of the month if he doesn't get a better offer.
Some photos (the 1st was emailed to me by the seller). I took the rest.

The front seat needed work and had a cover on it. If you want more info you can PM me.

I don't know Todd, I have come to learn that my standards are far below 99% of the guuys on board here so I don't mind a little cheese. That's how we fixed cars when I was a kid, no big deal to me. I'd say for 3 grand that is a pretty decent car, it runs and drives looks good. Lot's of guys are paying more than that for basket cases.

For $3,001 that could be your car.

I've been spoiled with southern cars. The rear wheel openings were carved out of body fill. There was no lip whatsoever. The trunk floor was pop rivited in places. I could see this from underneath. I couldn't lift the carpet in the trunk as it was stuck to the tar spread an top of the patches. The side trim was screwed to the body in places. The doors were also filler for the bottom 6". I assume the front fenders were filler on the bottom. These aren't criticisms, just the facts. I paid only $2100 more for my Laurentian than what he wanted today and it's all steel and has mint chrome etc. For someone who doesn't mind what I just mentioned, it is a good running car. The brake lines are all new as well and the gauges seemed to work. The frame repair looked decent- with a bit of grinding you'd never know it was there. He wanted $3500 today.

I missed this thread Todd. Figured that you might be interested. Thanks for the report. I agree with you, spoiled by southern and western cars. I just can't drive a bondo buggy anymore. Had too many rusted out Poncho's and other brands as a kid. There is a decent 60 4 door also on kijiji.

That's it! I know it's a more door BUT it has ORIGINAL paint. How rare is that on a 1960 Canadian car?

I've got the hankerin' for another 60, A candian one this time. - I really don't care how many doors. I may have to visit that fellow just outside of town with the Strato Wagon. He hasn't done anything to the car since I spotted it last year. That wagon would be coooool. It's very solid to boot.

no, just a time and place for everything---what sells today may not sell tommorrow, what doesn't sell today may be tommorrows hot item. We buy because we like them. Yours is a fine example of buying not 100% mainstream and getting a way better car for the money

I would be willing to part with my Strato Chief for the right price. It is a western car but I have had it udercoated a few years back. There has never been any rust on it. It is original Suntan Copper color, and had all the chrome re-chromed few years ago. E-mail me if interested at carsonkos@shaw.ca. The car is located in Edmonton.mo 089.JPG

- major bondo'd 2 dr          $3500.00
- original paint 4 dr            $4500.00
- nice minty 4 dr                 $9000.00

If someone's looking for a '60,.. definately the best value on this thread is that original paint 4 dr '60 that was posted by 68sd for $4500.00

But as someone already posted ,. there is a buyer for most cars at a "certain" price range.   If you gotta have the 2 dr,.. then 3K is not bad.   If doors are not a concern ,.. then the other two are both a much better car for the dollars.  Of course it all boils down to  $$$$$
