Somewhere I have a slide that my father took of Parliment Hill with one of these in the parking lot. The quality of the shot was not great, but still... cool "Canadiana". I'll keep an eye out for it.

I guess I should mention fellas, that the cars are actually called a "Pontiac Cup" LeMans. This was a nod to the Pontiac Cup which was a national ski championship here in Canada, that was based on the international championship. Part of the Pontiac Cup was held at "Ski Bromont", an alpine ski resort located in Bromont, Quebec.

The Pontiac Cup has since been renamed the "GMC Cup".

Here's a view of the build sheet of mine. Look at the end.

ANYWAY...........later.

Hey Pete welcome here. Is it true that  some cars were blue and white for the Quebec market? Do you know how many Pontiac Cup cars were sold?

You know, I can't tell you have many were made, I have yet to send in my VIN to GM Canada and possibly find out.

The option code is " 9Z7", as in "nine, zed seven". -- *Pont Cup Pkg --

http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/shopping/parts/vintage

As for blue ones. Yes, I saw a blue one for sale back in September 1981, at a used car dealer on Bowness Road NW here in Calgary. Right across from the 7-11.

http://goo.gl/maps/1fcDL

The car was 6 yrs old at the time and didn't look like it had been repainted.

They were asking 3300 for it and I only had 2500 at the time. They wouldn't budge below 3000, so that was the end of that.

But yes, I saw one.............once! Don't know if they were made for Quebec, but it totally makes sense due to the colours.

All the documents from GMVVS show number of GT options at just over 1,700 but never break out 9Z7. I have always thought that each GM Zone office area could order one or two. The number I heard is 48 with 3 being Pontiac 400 4bbl the rest being 350 Chevy 2 or 4 bbl.

There is an original 400 4 barrel one on PEI. The owner (I have his phone #) drives it regularly (I saw it last week). It's definately a driver.

This could be the only 400 in opearting condition in Canada. That car is known to the 73-77 guys especially the Cup car guys.

It's a little bit rough around the edges, but very restorable. I don't have a cell phone/camera, but I can always phone him and take pictures. He's a very approachable guy, and doesn't know what he actually has (at least he didn't seem to, he didn't brag about it).

He told me that he has been into 1970s vintage LeMans for a while, and has many wrecked ones.

Oh its super rare, as close to a GTO as possible in 1975 plus add in the Canadiana theme. Is it Valuable ? By the sounds of your description likely well under $10K until this era car takes off then he'll have a prize. Photos would be great to see, especially of that big blue engine.

I found a 1981 LeMans GT on Kijiji last week in Alberta or Saskatchewan, but now can't locate the ad.

It's slightly off topic but I thought the GT option ended in 1978, as there was a Cup car in 1978 as well. ? Anyone?

Bob,

There was the Lemans in white and red in '78, "Cup" car. There was one for sale in southern Alberta a while back. The GT ended in '77 and then there was the one for '81 which was for the Canadian market only. Black and gold or dark red and gold.

So the 78 Cup wasn't a GT - got it.

The 81 on Kijiji was a "real" GT, then - it had dark red paint with gold stripes, gold GT callouts and Rally IV's.

Thanks Robert, I didn't know that!

That is a super post there Carl.

When I look at the cult status the American Can Am has garnered I think we should be promoting these Pontiac Cup cars at every opportunity we get. These are definitely rarer and performamce wise with the 400 and even the LM1 350 4bbl they must have been darn close to the Can Am. They have the basic look of the last A body GTO and anyone who has ever driven a 73-77 LeMans know they are very good handling cars despite their size. With the distinctively Canadian paint and trim they are truly one of the last if not last of the "Performance" oriented Canadian Ponchos.

Nice finish on the car....I've recently picked up a 75 lemans gt and from what I've seen so far I believe it could be a "Canada cup" version.

it's blue now, but it's not the original colour. The car has a 400 Pontiac blue block, factory duel exhaust, 400 turbo trans with the white buckled buckets and console shift

This one is on it's way back to beauty. She's blue right now, but it will be back to it's original red and white within the year. These are amazing cars and I'm glad to see a following.

OK...the more I read the more I believe this is a Quebec version of the red Canada cup or as pointed out "Pontiac cup". It's just blue instead of read and white.

Neat car. You can get all the info on your car from GM Vintage Vehicle Services. They will tell you exactly what you have there.

That is a very neat car indeed. It is so easy to find out what you have by asking GM Vintage Vehicle Services to run your VIN.

My opinion (and I  dare say I am as close to an expert on this era LeMans you will find on here)  based on looking at the photos is that your car is not a GT and not a Quebec market cup car because the blue is wrong. I see no signs of GT identification either. That doesn't matter because the GT was really a decal package and not a performance package.  It is a interestingly optioned LeMans Sport coupe with the formal roof, NASA type scooped hood and Pontiac 400. The 400 was the top engine in 1975 for LeMans cars. (Safari still could be ordered with the 455) In many ways your car is nicer than a GT in my opinion because clearly whoever ordered it knew about cars and got the top performing LeMans. By the way no GM car came with factory dual exhaust in 1975 as this was the first year for catalytic converters and that 400 was choked off rating 180 HP.

Bill (Mr Disney), welcome and thanks for posting.

Your car's identical externally to my late father in law's car, right down to color, opera window/vinyl roof and the hood. His was a Canadian built Sport Coupe with a (Chev) 350/4V, and a white/black interior with buckets and console. My brother in law wrote it off in Edmonton in about 1983. Do you have any history on your car, and are you planning on modifying or restoring it to original?

The plan is to restore back to original. I purchased the car from it's second owner in Barrie ON....which was a family sale...father-in-law to son-in-law. I've sent to GM for more history on the car. It has the original 400 4bbl with all the numbers matching on the car. I've been told the dual exhaust is not factory but there are no after market headers as the dual exhaust system is connected to the original manifolds.
