Here is a link , and what Tyler had to say about the conversion , he loves the way his Lemans feels now.

Jeep box: 94-98 Grand Cherokee. Must be a grand cherokee. You need the box and possibly the frame attaching bolts. Need your own power steering pitman arm. and metric "o" ring hose adapters. The rag joint is from a 1981-1984ish chev half ton 2wd. Good write up on peformance years website.

I also found this link,, it has a list of donar boxes.

I just did the GC box swap into my 73 Cutlass, picked up a used box ($50) and new rag joint ($80) from Rockauto and the inserts from Lee Mgft. ($10) won't find out how it works untill the spring but it was an easy swap except getting the pittman arm off the GC box. Lots of positive results from other users on other sites.

I put a metric box from a mid 80s GM A body in my 68 Caprice, 3.25 turns lock to lock. Works great but you need the metric adapters from Lee Manufacturing in California, plus their rag joint with the smaller diameter sleeve. Way better than the original box. Before that I had a box in there from a 74 Z28. It was a bolt in with great road feel but at just over 2 turns lock to lock it wasn't suited to the turning radius of the big car.

I keep reading abou this metric thing, is not just as easy to swap the line fitting at the pump to a metric one?

I recall doing it on a G- body when I changed the pump 81 ~ 83 somewhere in there. 81 was imperial , 83 metric.

or am I off base?

I believe it's that simple Roger.

I put a metric box in my 64 GTO clone. I only ever drove the car around the farm before I sold it but it seemed to work perfectly.

You can certainly do that but I did not want to cut or modify the original hoses on the car and I could not source one of the odd-sized fittings anywhere.

Where did you get the rebuild from, and what application did you ask for to get a quicker ratio?  I'm in the market for a new box as mine leaks like a seive and doesn't have much road feel left.  I could rebuild it, but would rather get a faster ratio.  Are they pricey?  Thanks, Bob

Well, did some searching.  Partsource has Fenco rebuilt power boxes, quick ratio #SG16509 for $256.43 exchange, regular ratio #SG16537 for $226.04.  Its on their website, www.partsource.ca,   The quick ratio is 2 1/2 to 3 turns lock to lock, the regular is 3 3/4 to 4 1/4 turns lock to lock.
