Hi Guys, has anybody been doing any Ebay buying from the US?? I have a US shipping address but ebay say's the address is not correct and won't let me use it. WTF. Shipping for said part for Portland WA to California is 10.95 shipping from Portland to Vancouver Island BC, Probably close to same distance or less for 27.95. Has the shipping rate to get across the border gone up?? Shipper says not making any money on freight. HMM Someone is.
Frustrated receiver.

About a month ago I got a set of 67 style (small) rally wheel center caps and the shipping I believe was out of Washington state for about 23 bucks I think. The box would be about 8-10 lbs, about a one foot cube.

I bought a package through ebay about 6 weeks ago. Package was about a foot square and weighed around 5 lbs and shipping was exactly 20 bucks through USPS. To me that is about the same I've been paying over the last 5 years or so. Off this topic but regarding shipping I sent a package this last Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Kelowna to Campbell River by regular post and I got a phone call from the guy on Monday afternoon and he had received it already. I have gotten such good service from Canada Post the last couple of months and I think there rates are more than fair.
I wouldn't have even considered sending it to Canada, but for some reason Ebay says my Us addy is no good, Parents are there right now and use this address for mail and deliveries. Sent ebay an email reguarding this, will have to wait and see the outcome.
Do you have that address registered on your ebay acct? If not that might be the issue. If I recall correct I had the same issue until I set it up in my acct for shipping to Colorado. And also if anything shows up via UPS be fully prepared to open you wallet and empty out all your cash plus max out your credit card. I will inquire about purchases that ship ups and ask if they are willing to ship postal and if they say no I pass on the item

Just be thankful guys and gals that you don't have to ship to the UK. Most large re-sellers add up the part cost, the international shipping fee, the international handling fee and insurance. (Shipping these days is always high, especially for heavy parts, since there is no longer a surface mail option - everything has to come by air). Then, about a month after you've received the part and begun to get used to the cost another bill arrives from The Royal Mail for 10% import duty (on all those costs above) plus 20% sales tax on that figure. Oh, and a £20 sterling fee from them for collecting the duties.
A $5 part can easily end up costing more than $50.
Needless to say my purchases are shipped either to my son in New York or other friends in the U.S. They arrive in luggage, eventually.............
I enjoy the many "Free Shipping offers" (to USA only)

I order a lot from the U.S and always seem to get nailed with HST. It's usually not the postal service that is slow, but customs. I've ordered items from Hong Kong and it will come in 6 days. The U.S will often take 10-15. Crazy
My US addy was set up probably 4 years ago is in my ebay account. and has worked fine until yesterday. But this the first time I tried to use it in probably a year. Sent Ebay a letter complaining, so we will see what happens.
Oh ya No UPS shipments to Canada PLease, LOL.

my US address is only 35 minutes from me and have no problems with ebay items. The one thing ebay is not fair with is Pay Pal exchange rates. I had a guy ship a complete 12 bolt from Florida to Buffalo on a skid for $67. He works for John Deere and gets there rate.
Just got a package in this morning. Shipped out of Utah via USPS arrived by a local courrier service. Transit time was 1 week. Paid HST on the actual declared value plus $7 for brokerage. Considered this fair. ( Yes, I knew enough to tell the shipper not to use UPS )

-- Edited by Lemans64 on Friday 11th of February 2011 07:48:10 PMYou can actually call ebay and they'll work with you to rectify. I use a couple businesses in Sweet Grass Montana who are in the business of receiving packages for us Canadians, then hold them for us to pick up. They have both street addresses, and PO boxes. Unfortunately the post office does not deliver in that small town, and I had difficulty setting up those addresses with ebay. I kept getting a error message indicating the address did not match postal records. I called ebay, they manually added the address to the database. To call ebay, go to "Customer Support" and indicate you want to call them. They'll provide a ticket #, and you've got like 15 minutes to call or the ticket # expires. It worked well.
Just an update on this issue, Ebay was in contact today and I was told that seller would only except payments from confirm address, confirmed meaning same as credit card billing address, so seller would not except payment from me using that address. more safety stuff from ebay to make it more difficult to buy parts at a reasonable cost. I do understand the fraud part of this but being an honest buyer this makes me buyer elsewhere next time.
you can add the US adress to your credit card.....I've done that to ship to US adresses. alternately pay through paypal, its no problem....
also for those worried about ups, you can have the seller check off an option that the buyer will clear customs and all the crazy expensive charges go away... its just up to you to clear it in your city -it won't come to your door. however i still try to avoid ups and go usps where possible!
I refuse to use UPS as well, but fund Fedex reasonable. I recently set up a fedex account so I can have things shipped via fedex where the shipper only uses ups. Used it for the first time last week, haven't got my fedex bill yet though.

I am in Florida for the winter and have a US address and my Paypal account is set up in the US. I wanted to buy a part on Ebay and it said the vendor would not accept payments from a Canadian address. I contacted Ebay and they said the vendor had made this a part of his ebay settings. I told Ebay everything connected to Ebay was all Americian including the Bank Account to my Paypal Account. the vendor tried to change his settings and that still did not work. After being frustrated we both just cancelled the transaction. There has to be a flaw in Ebay.
On another subject I am vending some small parts on Ebay and had an inquire from a person in Sweden to ship there so I said OK I will try with USPS. I have had great service both shipping and receiving with them at very reasonable rates. I have never shipped to Sweden but I will give it a try.
I see the spammer that dug up this old 2011 thread was zapped!
