1962 Steering Wheel

Does anyone have a 62 steering wheel they would like to sell?  Even a cracked one would be ok.

Has anyone installed newer buckets in a 62?  The floor near the tunnel is far from flat.

Thanks

I would also be interested in either finding a replacement steering wheel for my 62 Parisienne. Sometime in the past someone filled the cracks with expoxy but it is again spliting. The wheel is Maroon so I would like to match it. The option is also to have it rebuilt. Is there someone who can rebuild the steering wheel?

There is a fella in the Edm area (I believe the Steering Wheel Doctor) who does very very nice work but is quite expensive. There are of course kits for the do-it-yourselfer.

I don't feel comfortable with a DIY kit without having to try it first. I found The Steering Wheel Guy (stwheelz.com) on the internet in Edmonton.

Has anyone used his service?

I have one on the 62 wheels right now, and a 59-60 style. I can also repair them if anyone is interested.

Brian,  i guess  i missed seeing this thread.

Is your wheel the color impegnated one or is it black rubbery and then painted?

The canadian cars usually use a color impregnated hard plastic that gets huge wide cracks,  they are hard to fix.   Best bet is to find the equivalent US wheel,  it will be a softer black that is painted.  they only develop hairline cracks and are easy to fix and repaint. Ebay will have them often and cheap.  You will want to search chevrolet belair 61-62 for the correct wheel.

I have fixed over 25 wheels with excellent results,  ask me at the next coffee about repairing them

Would you be interested in putting a set of factory style buckets in?  I have a set out of a 64 Custom Sport,  AND the proper floor braces to bolt the seats to !

Just use regular automotive paint same as your column and dash.

Just be sure to spray adhesion promoter on the plastic wheel before you paint,  any auto paint supplier will have the adhesion promoter.

You are best to use automotive paint that requires hardener,  the hardener will make it more durable,  the spraybombs with end up not lasting with your fingerprints and oils in the skin.
