X-frame differences?

Was wondering if there was a specific frame for the convertables in these years?

I know SOME converts had a boxed frame but not sure about these.

Also, what is frame interchange from 58-64?

Were they specific to 2dr.4dr. & wagon,etc.?

64 is convertible only , not sure what all years are identical ( 63-64) but the convertible has 1 extra body bushing, looking at the convertible I have, I would say the frame looks heavier duty through the mid section, gully welded as well...

experts??

Chevy convertible chassic's are stronger than a standard chassic. A standard chassic can be beefed up to convertible specs quite easily.

The main difference is extra gusseting in the section forward of the X up to the firewall mounts and about 6 extra mounting points. Convertible's also DO NOT use the big rubber biscuit body mounts. They use a much thinner almost flat rubber washer between body and chassic for extra stiffness.

The X section can be cut out or replaced if the rust is real bad. Some rebuilders do this in any case if they want to run a one peice tailshaft not the split type as standard. All you need do is replicate what was there..

63 & 64 Chevy chassics are identical, except for the already mentioned convertible chassic's. 61 & 62's are slightly different at the front and rear. 59-60's are slightly different also. 58's are slightly different again and have a different diff. upper control arm to all the others.

So if I'm looking at a 59-60 frame from a convertible, where are the typical problem areas for rust & cracks, etc?

Do you have a frame/rolling chasis for sale ?

Hi everyone at Canadian Poncho ! I'm new here and I'm finding it to be a wealth of information and a great resourse for parts and suppliers.Do you have a frame/ rolling chassis for sale 64/ ragtop ?

I have a 64 Parisenne rag top that is a pretty great car. It is in need of restoration but is really clean and drivable as it is.My intention is to build a restomode type car from it. "You know" Looks stock but goes like hell and handles, steers, and stops better than they ever did from the factory.Since time and money have to carefully monitered I am going to do it once and right.I also want to keep driving the car and still keep the project moving in a forward direction so I was going to build the chassis and some of the running gear first .So if you have a frame or maybe a rolling chassis for sale let me know. I'm in the Vancouver area but would be interested in a deal any place.smile
