RE: My first car

Evening. So I got a new fuel pump for her, along with fuel filter. The primary line from pump to carb was kinked. With all that said and done, put some gas down the carb and she fired right up. Don't know if the gas tank is good yet so I got the line running directly into jerry can. Going to get it up on the hoist in a day or two. All in all motor ran good, no knocks.

If the gas is from last year even, it likely has the old gas smell and I'd ditch it. It could cause you more grief than it's worth.

Good to hear it runs good, that's a plus!

Hey y'all. Been a while, my buddy has been busy and couldn't get my car up on the hoist to inspect. Going to finish everything underneath tomorrow and saturday. So I ordered new rear shocks and break lines. Everything else looks to be good mechanically under the car.

I will post pics of everything as we work on it tomorrow and get it undercoated.

Keep ya posted.

Well,

Definitely a great starting point for a restoration. The engine is definitely NOT 1960's vintage..well at least the top end anyways. One can tell simply by the inclusion of PCV. In 1966 a small block Chev had no PCV to speak of, they simply had "Road Tubes" 1967 saw the first PCV system which saw a reusable PCV valve screw into the back of the carb and then joined to a "tent" like structure via vacuum hose, which was bolted to the back of the block behind the manifold. Also, as stated above, the alternator would be on the driver's side on a 60's vintage engine, not the passenger's side.

sorry bud the engine in our pontiac certanly does have a PCV system, what that can on the side of the manifold is EGR, it was a way reburning the emmisions through exhaust. our cars have a system that takes the crankase vapour through that steel can at the back of the engine valley into a hose that connects to a PCV valve at the back of the carb, or oil filler tube. only early 60s had a puke tube.

A question for anybody out there. I was told that the Canadian designers had the Grande Parisienne tail lights and grills designed when the american designers liked the GP ones so much that they put them in the GTO's. So did the GP ones come first or the 66 GTO's?

They both came out at the same time, if I am understanding your question right.

And we need to see pictures of your Grande Parisienne please!!!

About the driver's side mirror...  To my surprise Canadian Tire carries a reproduction circular exact size match as the original. The outside casing is not identical but the mounting brackets are and you won't neet to drill holes on the frame.  From the front of the car few will tell the difference from the original on the passenger side.

Cheers.

 Very cool, thank you!

So I got the body mounts finally....long wait, held up working underneath the car. Going to tackle that today once my friends arrive at the shop. Motor is running good! I should have lots of new pictures tonight for y'all and perhaps a video of her running!

Cheers.

Hello everyone. I have not been on the forum for quite some time now. I'm just getting back into working on my car. I was wondering if anybody knows where I can purchase replacement parts like quarter panels, etc? I found a site that has GTO quarters, would they be fitting my car or do I need to look for another model? Trunk pan would be great to have as well. If not that's ok.

I will get some new pics up shortly, just sorting out all the details. Thanks.

Welcome back.

Quarter panels are unique to your car, nothing else fits I'm afraid. Nobody makes them as far as I've seen.

The trunk pan is the same as Impala. I just got a centre trunk pan piece for my 66 for just under 100 bucks.

Carl, thanks very much. My car has a lot of bondo on it and it's hard to see the defining lines. I found this picture off of Google of the Parisienne CS. Is this how the body should look when proper? There is a dominant line through the middle right? Thanks!

Hi guys, so lots of rust on this car. but I am determined to get it done. still unable to put it on my hoist just yet. I just learned to weld. So I am going to patch everything and then place clean solid piece of metal on top.

EDIT: so I checked the motor block numbers. it says GM 460886 305. So I don't know a hell of a lot about cars but I am guessing this motor is going to be underpowered for the weight of this car?

I'll be working on this tomorrow as well, hopefully have everything patched. It's a pain in the ass with the rain but I will make do. It may look like she's far gone, but I WILL GET IT BACK TOGETHER!!! haha. Cheers.

Wow, getting some work done I see.

Looks like a lot of working patching the floor, have you thought about buying the replacement floor pans and stitching those together?

I think it comes in 3 pieces.

I picked up the drivers side floor pan a couple months back. Looking for the name/address now.

Thanks! I would of liked to buy a replacement floor pan but I was told that you can't get them for these cars! Haha.

What I plan on doing after all the patches are done is use the wire brush on everything to remove the surface rust and then undercoat it. Once that is complete I will cut 2 giant pieces of metal to fit the trunk as tight as possible to cover the patches. Then insulate and throw some carpet over. It's not going to be a show car but will be much cleaner then it looks now. As long as everything is solid I will be happy.

Currently I have a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 that I drive....but I am dying for this car. It's my favourite. Just can't wait to get it on the hoist so I can repair the bottom.....man working in the trunk is a pain in the ass, especially with the welding helmet you can barely move :D

I'm a little discouraged about the 305 engine that the previous owner had put into this vehicle. We got it running and tuned last year but...I may want to swap it with one of the 350s and 454s in the shop. My Olds has a 330 in it and it's a bit gutless. This 305 will probably be worse I assume, but then again I do not know much about car motors.

Anyways here some pics from this morning, I'm bagged so I decided to stop. It's tedious work getting in the trunk but I am just about done. Now I can put some pieces across the wheel wells and the rest are inside the car which won't take long since everything is cut and ground already.

I might get some pictures of the frame and front clip for you guys too, about to take a walk to see if it's feasible to throw it in the garage today.

EDIT:  so here are some pics of the frame for you guys. It got welded up last year where there was an issue. I have new breaks, lines, rear shocks and body mounts all stored away for this car.

I'm going to take the motor out to clean the frame properly. I'm either gonna scuff it with my wire wheel and undercoat it or pull the sandblaster out. We will see once she is in the shop.

Wow, looking good too! Sounds like you have a great plan for the trunk.
Pulling the body off the frame? Are you sure this isn't going to be a show car? ;)
