Radiator Cap


What effect will using a 16 PSI cap instead of a 13 PSI cap have

Manual says 13 and Lordco said to use a 16

won't hurt any thing, will raise the coolant boiling point 9 degrees, which helps

Agreed, I have been taught that each pound increases boiling point by 3 degrees.

No guarantees I was taught right though!

 thanks, that helps alot. i had a 16psi cap and a 180 therm and it was running too hot.

stuck a 160 therm and it cooled down to mid range on my temp guage now i will try a 13psi cap and see where i end up.

I have never checked to prove it but I suspect that "hot" on our SD gauges is likely not much more than 200 degrees. I think our cars originally were built with 160 stats.

Hot on mine was just over 110
which is not to bad if not for too long
when my radiator sprung a leak my gauge when all the way
to "H" then continued right around to almost "H" again...

 that is correct, 1lb=3 degrees
