Body mounts

Hey guys, I noticed that my car was looking a little sad and leaning to the left, turns out the body side mounting locations are rotten and need replacing on the left side. Has anyone done this? and if so does anyone have a few pics of a good mount so I can fab one up. If not I will inspect the right side and try to fabricate new mounts based on them. the actual rubber mounts aren't to bad just the body side of things. guess the northern winters finally took thier toll on the old girl.

Thanx in advance.

So just out of curiosity did you undo the rest of the body mounts and lift the body to do the repair?

IMG_0964.JPGIMG_0977.JPGWell Robert if you feel handy they can be made. Just remove as much of the original for a template, cut out and weld in. There is one thing, the body mount bolt nut must be welded inside the the new metal mount. It takes a bit of centering for the bolt and nut to lineup. Don't forget to put the rubber donut and bolt sleeve in. pictures are the rear right finished and undercoated. Works like new.

Looks good, thanks for the pics, and I am quite handy no stranger to the welder. It looks like 'll need to cut out a lot of rot. It'll have to wait as it's snowing out right now . . .

hmm

Instead of welding the nut directly to the floor or brace use cage nuts and weld the cage. This way the nut will float slightly and allow better line up when securing thigs. In southern Ontario you can get cage nuts at Spae naur in Kitchener.

Did not lift the body, just used the old stuff to make a template and welded in the new part. Worked good about 1 1/2 hours. Did both sides.

Can anyone give me measurements between the chassis and the body I have a few mounts that are rotten so I would like my car to site true and level.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen such information in the manuals ... only frame diagrams with measurements.

Maybe somebody on here can measure? (right now I'm injured, and can't bend down)

I know you level out the body on the frame with square spacer washers in between the frame mounts and the rubber. They are special washers that "nest" upon one another. I'll get some pictures later today.

While we are on the topic of mounts.

If the you have a frame mount that looks like this:

It would be a bit of fab work to weld in a replacement piece of metal on that mount.

The only way to fix it is to get one off (in my case a '61 - '64 Impala or Parisienne frame), grind the old nasty one off and weld the "gently used" one on. They do not make these frame mounts in the aftermarketcry ... just ones for racing applications.

You can fab up a whole new one if you don't mind the non-original appearance.

thanks for the pictures, it's the body side mounts that rotted out the bolts and rubbers are still there, so before I fab up some mounts I want to level the body above the frame and tack up some mounts then do a final weld once they are all good.
