back in the day I remember replacing fuses in customers cars that were originally paint coded with a different coloured stripes....the recent posting of the vette solved part of my curiosity......20 amp - red......25 amp-white the rest are unclear......may this post should be bumped to the "purest'
Although I've seen many a glass fuse...never seen them colour coded like that. Perhaps this was done just prior to the switch to the new style of fuses?
....I do recall them too. think it was probably a certain brand that coded them, maybe it was Buss ?? , but not all brands were color coded. Now you got me thinking and have to go start looking in some of my parts cars what I can find .
I think they were colour -coded from the factory....replacements weren't Bob

yikes.......so 100 point cars have them in place?......or do judges even look?
If I was an anal 'vette guy, I'd just paint the appropriate colours on my fuses. Who would know?

I can verify only factory installed fuses were color coded. I had a lot of 60's GM's prior to 1980 many of which were completely untouched. I worked at GM dealer parts since 1973 and never saw a color coded replacement.
from the factory they are painted on the inside...and its flat, or no gloss..you can tell if they are painted on the outside...really different look, if you try to just paint them yourself
The surviving presumably assembly line fuses on my 65 Impala SS are an unknown brand to me with an atom symbol on one end and the rating on the other end and painted stripes with the color dependent on the rating. No one on ChevyTalk had ever seen anything like them, must be an Oshawa thing. Of course the other Oshawa feature is that the flasher can plugs in on the fuse box.

I have 2 with this symbol, both have painted stripes. and the stripes are painted thin and on the outside of the glass, one is orange and one is mauve.
i also have lots of the red ones painted as well as white and grey, the stripes are wider and on the inside of the glass, no atom symbol

Thanks I'll check out that link.
I had a mauve one but it broke, no orange one is present.
If you want to part with them it would go a long way to completing my fuse box so let me know thanks.
