You can make a tool to do it! Not hard and You thread them and put in threaded studs.. What heads are you doing? I have sets of them from numerous 400 350 heads... and think I even have a set of polylocks to go with them..

Hi all....any one have any good info on how to remove pressed in rocker studs for cleaning and how to re fit them on a 66 389 ! Also can I fit a medium lift cam and new lifters and use the original push rods and stepped studs ( non adjustable) Thanks guys , j
If I put in threaded studs do they not have the oil holes in them ? Does oil actually get pumped up through the studs or are they just a reserve of oil that gets filled through the tiny hole ! I only say this as I cant find any way oil can get into the heads apart from up the push rods ! The heads are off a 66 Bonneville 389 four barrel . I'm fitting am MTP-1 cam and lifters kit http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pontiac-350-455-400-389-326-370-347-316-287-RV-Torque-Camshaft-Cam-kit-lifters-/150730184085?hash=item2318381595&vxp=mtr
and was wondering if I can use the original non adjustable rockers with it ....what do you think?.j
Nailhead is correct, the studs are just bolts that are pressed into the heads. The oil comes from the valve lifter, it's pumped up through the pushrod to the rocker arm.
I agree. You should only remove them to replace them. Myself I would never re-use a press in stud - risk of it pulling out in use. Just my opinion.
It depends! more dependable with the threaded studs as they will not pull out . That is why higher horsepower heads have screw in studs.. I dont think in your application I would worry about the studs pulling out so keep them in if your going to use those heads.. What is the casting number on them?

No and No oil doesnt get pumped up through the studs, Oil gets pumped up your pushrods and onto the rockers and all over the place.. Your heads your using are listed on this site and looks like they are a 91 head... And No problem with using the stock rockers as long as they measure out good , http://www.pontiacpower.net/headcast.html
I think the stud oiling finished on the US Pontiac engines in 1964 but I could be all wet behind the ears in saying that. I didn't check it to confirm.

Thanks every one for your awesome help and info ....I was unsure of what the tiny hole was for in the stud right where the rocker sits ! I researched it on the internet and found that it is an entry hole for an oil reserve that's kept inside the stud ! So it's not so important . Thanks again to all those who replied and next time i'll do some more in-depth research before coming on here ! j
