yes, thats the way they were in Canada if Oshawa built up until december 1966 (67 models also) no domed hood though vin 136 with A51 rpo makes it a Malibu SS L34 would be the 396 engine option - car could come with a six, 283, 327 or 396/350hp
Yup, if it is the real thing it would be a rare one. Anyone remember how many produced? I recall it being super rare, is it under a 100, like 60 or something.

They made 499 Malibu SS coupes with the 396 for 1966, plus 50 Malibu SS convertibles with the 396.
The abbreviated 1967 run was only for the first 2½ months of production. Only 11 Malibu SS convertibles were built with 396 power as 1967 models... I don't know how many coupes or the equivalent Beaumonts.

Yes the early SS models the 396 was still an option. After that all SS cars were BB's. I believe from previous info on this site 66 BB Beaumont convertibles were built and Chevelle production would have been higher. Maybe some one can expand on this or correct me
i have a 67 malibu ss 396 350hp but dont know how many were built, george z couldnt tell me in the gm docs
your 67 Malibu SS has rocker panel moldings, wheel opening moldings, Malibu SS emblems on the quarter panels like a 64/65, SS horn button ---is the tail panel body color or satin black ? is there anything else different from a Malibu ?
should be a 136 v.i.n. with A51 on the cowl tag - L34 for the 396/350 that year they called it 360 the year before
When I was growing up my Dad had a 66 Malibu SS with 283 powerglide (my first day of school picture is with that car) kinda what got me into this 66 67 'A' body thing -- I like them but again rare isn't nessacarily desirable - Americans want to see the 138 vin.
my 67 malibu ss 396 has the malibu ss script on the rear quarters like a 65 and a d96 strip package no ss on the back between the tail lights and no ss on the grill,it has the 396 cross flags on the front fenders, it came with a simulated wood wheel so no ss on horn cap, it is plumb mist with white d96 strips, tinted glass all the way around, rear antena disk brakes, rally wheels with red lines, black int, dash tack, 396 350 hp auto, ps pb, heavy duty rad, heavy duty suspension and was sold at mander chev olds in north vancouver bc, i have pictures of the car at six months old and it had a bb chevelle hood but that could have been a dealer install, mander did tons of dealer hot rod up grades to many of there cars, my car has the regular malibu grill as well.

awesome color ! and the stripe is pretty interesting - I would have thought no hood but obviously anything is possible - I always wondered if it should have a black tail panel but it would make since to have it body color like the Malibu
As I recall there were 120 1966 Beaumont Sport Deluxe coupes built with the L34 396/360.
Cheetah427, your '67 Malibu SS sounds exceptional! The few that survived more often than not were modified with the SS396 hood & SS emblems all over. If your car has a factory documented rear antenna then it is only the second one I have heard of. Which automatic is it? At the time your car was made, the only automatic listed in the brochure was the Powerglide. Official Canadian option lists differ, and they list the Turbohydramatic as offered with the 396.
The early '67 brochure make sort of vague references to the Malibu with the Sports Option, plus they have an airbrushed SS396 on the cover with a flat hood & regular Malibu grille, deleted pinstripes (mostly) and some hastily-applied Malibu SS quarter emblems. They don't mention the D96 stripes in the brochure but they were available on the Malibu SS (Malibu with the Sports Option), but only with the 396. Another thing they don't mention is the Turbohydramatic, but they actually were available right from the start of 1967 production with the 396.

My good friend in Timmins has one of the 499 Malibu SS 396 360 hp cars .His was originally a 4 speed but is now a turbo 400. He is actually looking for a driveshaft or someone that can measure a 67 with a big block turbo 400 to get the correct factory length. His car was a cover car on the Canadian Classics magazine and also was featured on the snap on calander. The car is dark green ,with black interior and factory tinted glass. It is a 136 with the L34 on the cowl.
