Can anyone easily tell me the stock length of the front portion of the drive shaft for a 61 Pontiac/Chev 261 auto (cast glide).
I swapped to an aluminum powerglide, more than one person measured twice, and we figured the front drive shaft needed to be shortened by 3 inches. Got it back from the shop, put it in and the slip yoke sticks out 2 inches. Trying to figure if it is incorrect measurement or driveline shop error.

'61 impala, installed a turbo 350 in place of a cast iron PG, shorten the frt shaft 3" worked fine
That is what I thought as well, the drive shaft was going to be either the same size or need to be 3 inches shorter. I really should have written down the stock length before it was modified. I have a spare rear piece but not the front. So far no luck trying to find the length online.
that one I measured, for some reason I had to shorten it , even though I had it behind a PG, but the PG was out of a 64 Beaumont , and had the longer tail shaft. ..I've read that up until 63 , there was the coarse spline output shaft ,and possibly different length????
as I'm typing this , I think I recall where another loose drive shaft is....

I pulled the drive shaft back out and measured and its 24" center to center so that inch is exactly what I am out. This would lead me to derive that the stock length would be 28" center to center
