I read on another forum that you/we have a vin # registry,is this correct? Can I register my vin # on this site.? Looked under most forums but couldn't find it.thx Jim
It's a bit complicated now I'm afraid. It was started by a member who reads here frequently but we never hear from him. His last post shown is from about a year ago. Only a moderator can update the registry and none of us (moderators) is either willing or capable of coming anywhere close to making the commitment to update and maintain the registry. Fred did an incredible job doing it but has given it up, so only the info that was put in by him is there.

The value of the registry is not measurable. I don't know where they are or what happened but certainly if they are still in archive keeping them updated seems like a good idea. If they are accessible to Moderators I would gladly keep them updated to the best of my capabilities and subject to some ground rules concerning contributions to the registry.
I considered a website addition to the forum where members could submit the info themselves but that also proved too daunting to write. One of my New Years resolutions is to learn the programming language "Python". Perhaps that could be my learning project. The Python manual is 1600 pages so it might take me a while!
My wife is on a church committee that has some site they use where they can all add to a "chalkboard" kind of thing. What if we would do something like that so everyone could add their own info? Of course it would not be part of Canadian Poncho but it would be accessible to all of us.

A data base of any description can not be maintained by individuals adding info themselves. Proper data base management requires basic protocols and standards that must be met in order to keep the data's integrity intact thereby keeping the data credible and useful for all users of the data. This is best accomplished by controlling the data strictly in the hands of one or two individuals. Perhaps if Fred had been able to delegate some duties we would not be at this point today. Seems to me that there are two legitimate offers on the table to maintain the registry without new programming or systems.
Hi Ray. I watched Fred early on, when this stuff started up, inputting the info and it was labour intensive. all the info was typed in and spaced to keep it aligned plus colour coded to match the colour of the car (i think). i had mentioned to him at the time maybe setting it up as a data base engine, don't know any other way to describe it, oracle comes to mind. any thought or programers on board know how to do that stuff. i did at one time but haven't done any in over a dz years.
