Aftermarket Wheel Question

My 62 Parisienne came with old chrome rims and rotten tires. I'm thinking of getting a set of 14 inch rims and going back to stock hubcaps for a while. The wheels that are on the car now have two flats and they aren't fixable. I can't go to a bigger tire because any more than the 185/75/14 ones that are on it now, will rub on the upper front fender.

The chrome rims are 14 X 6, (maybe 5 1/2) and they are way offset for perhaps a lowrider project from years gone by. About 1 1/2 inch back set, so they stick way out. I'm putting some pictures of the worst one on the thread to see if anyone recognizes the brand. They look really old, and I haven't found any numbers or identification anywhere on them. A fellow that saw them a while back used to work in a wheel shop years ago and thinks they might be made by a company called "Pacific Wheel".

These cars look really sharp with nice wheels, but I'm not much for huge offset. Any ideas what these are?

I don't know what rims they are, but boy have the holes ever ovalled. They are a nice style of rim though!

Actually, different land mass. I'm in Richmond, BC lower mainland. Tin Man is in BC on Vancouver Island. Two hour ferry ride plus an hour or more driving to Cobble Hill.

those ook to be old Astro Supremes.. but they should not be ovalled to that degree.. looks someone may have helped them out to make them fit.

Supremes are available new, pretty affordable !

great looking wheel for the 62

I had vintage torq thrusts on my 62 hardtop same colour with a white top.

Just a thought... 14" tires seem to be getting harder to come by. That convinced me to go with 15" wheels. (14" vs 15" not an issue with dog dish, but are an issue re wheel covers.)

I had a set of alloy Torq Thrusts years ago with the large bolt pattern for my 62 Starfire. Like 03cts sport said, I was going to have trouble getting the big 14 inch tires for them. I think that look would suit a 62 Parisienne, but maybe not in an offset rim. Dead center would be about right. If I gi 14 x 5 stock steelies, I could find lots of 215/75/R14 kicking around, but bigger than that gets a bit tougher to find used.

check out the after market tire pl;aces eg. Coker, Tire Rack, etc. lots of listings for 225/75/14 & 235/70/14 Is your clearance problem the offset rim or "saggy" springs?? you should be able to see 1/2 the sidewall on rear 1/4 wheel opening at the top of arch!! Some are so sagged that you can't see the top of the rim!! Just a thought, Pete

It's because of the offset. They're fine on the back, it's the front that looks like the top of the arch will hit the tire if the car bounces and the steering is turned.

Most of my tires I get used, as I go through way too many cars to buy new ones on any but my daily drivers. I had a beautiful new set of 215/75/14s a couple years back that came on a 65 Parisienne CS I picked up for a parts car, but I sold them. The correct rims, too. Dang it all anyway. If I'd kept them, though, I would have never found THIS car !!

Seems to be the way it goes..... maybe my next parts car will have some useable wheels and tires.

Yeah those look like the "supremes" that were on my car when I bought it. I flipped them as quick as I could, wasn't into the 13 inch rollerskate look. I'm using 15 inch rally II's on my '63 and love them. Lots of 14 inch cragars floating around locally on craiglist though.

I'm not sure about Pontiac rally wheels on the 64.

I had them on my 70 GTO ragtop for years and really liked them,

but I'm liking the Torq-Thrust look, or maybe your idea of Cragars.

Stock is sort of...well...I don't know, not exciting? A buddy is hunting

through his piles of hubcaps looking for my fourth one anyway.

I'd have to agree about hubcaps being on the boring side. I've had no luck trying to flog these:
canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t54400644/1963-fullsize-hubcaps/

I like the look of the vintage torque thrust D's, but they're getting either rare or expensive. Polished Torque thrust II's are really common but I don't think they look all that great on these years IMHO. That's why I like the old Cragar SS, Appliance or ET 5 spokes. Period correct and old school cool.

You should not have an issue at all running a full reversed rim on the front. I am running the same with  215/75/14s.   In my opinion a reversed rim looks better on these years as it fills out the wheel well.

I see what you mean. You can actually run 215/75/14 on yours? I'm going to put some on my rear two and see how that works. Maybe even with the wear on my bolt holes the wheels will be held on strong enough. I'll consider it an adventure. The cars is nowhere near driveable anyway. I don't even know if it runs !!  If it works, I'll consider doing the fronts later. Maybe the other wheels are less worn. I know they're in better shape rust-wise.

It looks more like a Wide Track with the reversed rim, like it should.

I always thought the leverage would be hard on the front end bearings. I wonder how Rumrunner's car steers.

I have ran both standard and reversed offset rims on a few cars now and have never noticed any difference in the steering. I have had the 14x7 reversed Cragars on the 61 for almost 6 years now and no bearing issues either.

Also to answer above  "You can actually run 215/75/14 on yours?"  ...... I was incorrect after looking I am running 205/75/14 so a little lower in height.

Circum. inches (mm)83.87 (2130.31)82.02 (2083.19)-1.86 (-47.12) -2.2%

I'll see what my wrecker buddy has in his yard. He found a set in nice shape last week. Said they were 215 or something bigger than the 185 that's on the rims now. He'd probably sell me 2 or 4 for $20-$50 depending on condition. It's worth looking into. I've got a pair of 185/70/14 but that just seems TOO small. Doesn't even match the 185/75/14 on the front.
