For my console and buckets project I need to paint the metal Strato seat trim and the steering column collar. The plastic console and column to dash collar also will need painted.
Any suggestions to the materials I should use for metal and plastic? I can't find any real info on SEM specifically matching my colour requirement (although I havn't been in to see Carquest yet). Do I have any other options?
Here's a back of a Strato back panel trim, I think it's what GM called "Medium blue" for 67. I think what I have is what is referred to "Medium Bright Blue". Any thoughts?
Here's the seatback cover, and a shot of some vinyl and trim in my 67. Is it Medium Bright Blue? Do you think most big CP's and Impalas shared interior colours?

I went thru your same troubles when i did my 67 beaumont rag, try to find my threads on the subject from a couple years back
My interior was the lighter blue as opposed to bright blue, there are only the 2 shades for 67. I did track down the colors in spray form from NPD, see thier catologe, great color matches for the vinyl color. I had a custom mix for the metal parts, then used a PPG flattener and dulled it down to the correct interior gloss,
I will tell you one thing, blue is a fussy color, and there are so many tints and shades, it is next to impossible to get it all to match, i think my interior turned out good tho.
Also, my interior was from PUI and i think the blue shade of the repro seatskins was off from the originals, that will make a difference in color matching everything.
I do still have my custom mix in the shop, must have atleas a liter still of the metal paint, and also some spray bombs of the vinyl color.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
I'm needing the same thing for interior in my red/maroon 66 GP. I have the face of the ashtray removed and hopefully my next trip to Winnipeg will be fruitful. I plan to take it to Rondex. I hear they can scan it and match spray bombs for me. I want to get semi gloss, but assume that won't be an issue.

I do agree that a medium blue could be fussy. The need of a near perfect match would only be required on my dash to column collar, and all the rest of the parts are divided up by carpet or vinyl anyway. So more forgiving on those.
I'm wondering if some kind of off the shelf colour match could work. A flat clear could be sprayed over to dull down the gloss. As dumb as it sounds, I might just putter through the CTC auto paint isle. You never know.
I'll head down to the Oakville Carquest as well to talk, as they are the local SEM supplier.

BTW, the dash is coming along super nice Carl, I thought your picture with the column in place looked unusually nice! Hadn't see this "painting" one until just now.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for a mixed can Carl?
Anyway, an update; Just got back from CTC. Returned a couple of cans of Duplicolor perfect match that I had bought earlier thinking they might match. I had done that well before getting the collar out of the 67.
No initial match at all after getting the collar home, but on a goof, I took the collar down to CTC anyway, and cruised the paint isle one more time, and low and behold, one can top popped right out as a pretty close match for my collar.
It's a Dark Sapphire Blue metallic. A little more metallic than the collar, but darn close I'd say! Of course spraying it out may prove different, but if it works, what the heck! I'll try a test tomorrow. And the plan is to spray a light coat of Krylon satin clear over it, to knock down the gloss a little. And maybe give it a light buff with #0000 steel wool. if it needs even less gloss.

It's $12.00 a can.
I think it was about 28 bucks for the bomb. I painted the dash and the tilt, just a bit left in the can. I am debating using it on the seat back and side panels.
Anyone have any thoughts on that, positives or negatives to using it for them?

Late to the party, but nothing I can add anyways. I picked up a couple of "bright blue" spray cans on a visit to the US a while back. Seem to be brighter than I hoped, but it did the job... sort of.

Regarding painting the hard plastic pieces, I read somewhere that regular automotive paint can be used if you wipe the part down with lacquer thinner just prior to painting the piece. This will deglaze and make the surface tacky to accept the paint better. I tried it and the pieces seem to be standing up pretty well. Any body else have any experience doing this?
Yes, I was happy with the price. We use them a lot at work for touch ups on trade ins (lots of gravel roads in our area)
It's a standard size spray bomb, comes with a standard and a "mega" nozzle.
When I did my Acadian firewall, I used the mega nozzle with great results. When I use the little nozzle, I use one of these. I love 'em, no more sore trigger finger.

It makes sense it would work Elwood, but I plan on using Dupli Color adhesion promoter. From what I've heard it works pretty well.
And where can I get me one of those fancy spray handles Carl?

I think I got them at Home Hardware Mark. I've used them for years. No more looking (ahem) "feminine" with painted nails, no more sore trigger finger. I really hate using a conventional spray bomb without one now.

Wow, that sure didn't work out. Man, I guess I lucked out with my match.
Did they not show it to you before they put it in the can? When I went in, the guy called me over about 5 minutes later. He had it mixed in a little can, stirred it, showed me and asked if that was what I was after. I had wanted to go a bit redder than stock (stock was more maroon) because I knew my seats and carpet are redder than stock.
They had your part to use as a sample? I think I'd go back and see what they can do.
