RE: 66 acadian SD resto ( 5.3 )

Progress at the brother inlaws shop last couple of nights! cam and spring are in along with painted block/trans/intake, nice to be putting together not taking apart. Trans is painted, heads are cleaned with aluminum cleaner and wire tooth brush(hours)furious. Also made a plug for intake on the lathe last night, 1 1/4 hole would be one hell of a vacuum leak!

Thanks Jerel. No sense guessing Doug might as well dyno when done, but if I did have to 340-360 at tires. Friend gave me a 6 way power bucket that looks like the base will bolt right to my stock seat, even the track width is the same. Anyone know what it came out of? We don't, I'm thinking mid to late 70's Buick/Olds?

Bit further along, tapped and drilled head for temp gauge (use lots of grease) also broke apart orig 5.3 oil pres gauge and drilled/tapped base for new/stock oil gauge. Drilled water pump neck for vapour tube. Had a bit of a setback. When installing timing cover on a LS there are no centering pins! When I went to install crank pulley noticed that crank seal was off center 1/8" so had to remove water pump and loosen timing cover bolts. Once that was done I installed pulley and then tightened timing cover, also got my GTO oil pan kit (Turn key engines) Getting there, just slow. Should have back in car next week.

Damn pics never work from my phone! Took car to brother in laws shop for install of engine/trans. Using stock plug boots so I cleaned them up a bit #1 how it came out of motor, #2 med scotch brite, #3 buffing wheel on bench grinder with blue polishing paste. Everything fit PS booster/PS steering box etc. Had luck on my side for once!

Prob cost me 12-15 HP but guys said it would be tough to impossible to fit in stock front end, so I had to find out.biggrin Sorta like Carl putting a BB in 1. Besides, I don't need it for the boat, has to much flex in the water. Would prob work great in a Hydrofoil.

Tight, but it all seems to be fitting. Want to run all stock components under the hood(horns, bat, etc ) still need to find a place to mount the washer fluid container? Any input would help!smile Got my plug wires installed and my cleaned up plug boots (heat shields or whatever there called). Need to figure out rad hoses next?

PS lines, heater hoses and washer fluid container in but I had to mod my rad. Had to run the upper rad hose down and around my air intake, looked for hours for a hose and still had to do it in two pieces. Cut the lower outlet off to re weld for the right angle. There goes my warranty!!!no

Installed my gauges and put in PS cooler. Didn't want gauges mounted to the dash and didn't want to drill holes in my console so I made up a bracket, sits just in front of console. Will paint it Fawn when I paint rest of interior. Just need to figure out where to mount volt meter next.

Great idea, Jim. I think you've picked the perfect spot. Looks like it was meant to be there.

Thanks Jerel and Tim, do think it's better than drilling holes in my 1 of 300 consoles. Had to trim it up a bit, you could see the edge of the sheet metal when looking through the door window. Found a master that I think will work (85 Camaro) right hand outlets and clears the spring tower. Now I just need to spend  hrs plumbing lines and prop valve.hmm

Looking real sweet! Love all your detail work.
So going to be up and running for September? Would be an added incentive for me to take a little "me" time.....

Thanks Dan and Bob,lots more pics to post, only 1/2 way there! Dan- Hope you have a few cans in the kitty for the trip in Sept! Going to have this thing running by the time Holidays come at the end of June. Just talked to my bud tonight and he has 01-12 programs for LS so I'll have have to buy 2000 or get an 01 ecm(about the same price). Whenever you go to buy your refreshments tell your wife your not spending, your saving for a trip!!biggrin

Well......was going to have it running before holidays but I figured I might as well get it drivable first, so got my brake system finished and just have to find a drive shaft. Have also been working on an intake cover for the past couple of weeks. Made up a template first to see how it would look. Still some bending, welding fabing to do on it but I think the water jet cutting worked out well. Have a couple of ideas for cover to "brighten" up the engine bay a bit. The white on cover is the protective coating for the stainless, just peeled some back to see how it looked.
