After Market[K+N] Cold Air Intake kits

Just picked up a lightly used one for my 2009 Sierra 1500 SLE with the 5.3 motor. Anyone have any experience with these and are they worth the $? Supposed to be good for 10- 12 hp and slightly better mileage. I paid 50% of retail for it so thought I'd give it a shot.

Got one on my 97. Don't think I gained much mileage wise or powerwise. But it sure does sound cool when you hammer on it!

My advice is get a pre filter with the K&n. I've got an outerwear a brand on mine, helps keep the filter looking cleaner IMO

I think 10-12 hp is close

I have personally had good success with these type of set ups although I have never used one off the shelf. Mine were all modified to fit my applications.

I used a cold air intake system in conjunction with a Granetelli MAF on my 5.7 Suburban and that thing was like a rocket. Had to have picked 50 HP because that 6,000 behemoth can lay rubber now.

On my 98 Deville Northstar code Y engine, I  modified a Caviler unit I got for $10 at PI Midnight Madness and once again the gain was incredible.

The best result was on my 92 3.8 Bonneville. I rigged up a 5.7 V8 K&N after tossing the stock air box and put on the SSEi dual exhaust system. That car was able to run dead heat with a friend's SSEi supercharged rated at 240 HP whereas mine was 170 HP rated. I did order that car brand new and did get the "performance 3.08 ratio"  which may account for some of the result.
