64 cs regulator issue

Hey everyone. I have not been posting for a while as life has been super busy. Finally got some time to play with my Pontiac and I have a charging issue. I changed the voltage regulator and still no luck. I noticed someone was in to play with some wiring but not too badly. Anyways it looks like I have a VR103 reg and it hoed like this F=blue field wire going to alt 2= nothing. Short wire going nowhere 3=brown acc wire 4= black wire to condenser. It is not charging and I am not sure it something came off when I was taking the reg out. I did have an issue with a red wire heating and melting the plug at the firewall last year and the amp gauge used to spike to far right on startup before this quit. I can't find specific wiring diagrams for this car. Please help. Thanks

Can you post a picture of the alternator from the back, and a picture at the regulator?

Have you still got the 64 Impala? Wouldn't it have the same regulator? I was going to take a photo of my 65 442 regulator, as I swapped the whole harness over from an f-85, and haven't finished converting to the internal one in the alternator, but.....the wires have been painted black. I'd check my 62, but it's got the generator, and might be different.
I'm sure lots of people have the old style still, and can send you a picture. Always an adventure when someone starts chopping up the harness. Lately I've just started pulling complete harnesses from my parts cars and swapping them out. At least you've got a simple, but interesting adventure :)

Diagrams are good... Yes I do still have the 64 chev and the manuals for it but the pontiac is wired quite differently and does not have near as many wires.

According to the diagrams that Pontiax posted the car is wired right. I purchased another new VR104 (Standard Motor Products) regulator as it would appear that I am simply not getting the field signal out of it.

When I bypas the Reg and full field the alternator it charges no issue. I currently took my old VR103 reg out of the chevy and modified it to work for now but it will kill the alternator if I keep it like this on a regular basis.

Ill post some updates once i try this other reg.

Thanks for all the info. I do want to get the shop manuals for the Pontiac as I see there is enough diferences between my chev that they could be of great value

Chinese manufactured by chance?

It's getting tougher all the time to find quality parts for our old cars, no question.
