May 2014 Feature Car

For May we're featuring another stunning convertible. Mark Toohey is the proud owner of this 1964 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe.

Once you read Mark's write up you'll then understand why it is fitting to make this Beaumont our May feature car.

Back some 25 plus years ago my oldest brother John walking on his lunch hour spied this old brown convertible sitting in a driveway with 3 flat tires. He told my younger brother Kevin (70 SS Acadian) about so a trip was made to ask if they wanted to sell. Sale price was $100 and a promise not to scrap car.

Tires were pumped up and a battery was install but engine was seized so it was pushed on the trailer to take home. The sellers of the car had bought it brand new. After arriving home in less then 2 hours car was running with top down driving on the country roads.

A full resto was started by my brother but he had a few too many projects at the time and sold the car to me. I got the Canadian docs on the car from GM and found out the car was built on my 10th birthday May 14 1964.

What started out to be a winter project took 5 years to complete. Car came original with a 6 and 2 speed glide. I bought a date correct 327 300 motor and put a 3 speed auto behind it.

It has been over 8 years since car was completed. I have enjoyed many cruize nights and Beaumont/ Chevelle show and shines. I have stored the original engine and tranny. I have no plans ever of selling the cars so many more happy years of driving to come. Mark Toohey

I never get tired of Beaumonts, even though I've never owned one!

Nice car Mark. Great choice Todd.

Indeed Mark that's a beautiful car and your choice of wheels really works well, Pontiac Rally 1V wheels, had a set on an '80 Grand Prix.

I took a few photos of your car in Hamilton a couple of years ago at an all Pontiac day at the now defunct GM dealer.

I'm envious. Very nice. Great colour combo.
Sure wish mine was that far along.
Built exactly 1 month after mine.
