66 4 dr wont start

Was having problems getting stater to engage, would engage 1 of 4 tries. took out stater and removed solenoid, cleaned disc and contact posts. Put back together, same problem. Red and pink wire on back of ignition switch warm, not hot after trying to start. Can jump starter with screw driver with key on run possision and starts every time ? any suggestions Thx Jim

Can you hear the hear the solenoid clicking even when starter does not engage? Sound to me like the starter is fine, replace solenoid.

Exactly what I thought, solenoid. But its works perfect everytime I jump from S on starter to hot on starter with screwdriver. Will see if I can find my remote starter switch and try with that.

It could be the ignition switch itself.  Too much voltage drop, maybe due to dirty contacts.

I had the same problem in my '57 Pontiac, so I put in a rebuilt starter and the problem never went away.  After that, I put in a new ignition switch and it's never given me a problem since.
