Removing the stainless windshield moldings

I'm starting to get serious about getting to the paint stage and the glass has to go. I carefully poked around on the windshield moldings and can see this is a lot trickier than the body trim.

How do you get the windshield wiper bezel off??confuse I've been under the dash and there's a 1/2" bolt on the mechanism which I took off , and then there's that little screw on the side but nothing's moving!

The s.s. moulding goes under the bezel so it must need to be removed -right? Also need to get it off for re-plating. And any tricks for getting the stainless off??IMG_1751.JPG

OK- since I'm the first guy to ever do this no- here's how it worked out! The problem was that the rubber gasket was so old it was acting like adhesive and with a little persuasion the bezel pops right off the body and window trim. You do need to remove the 1/2" bolts under the dash that hold a retainer and then pull the wiper motor arm mechanism up through the hole after detaching from the wiper motor (also the vacuum hoses). How to re-plate these is the issueconfuse

The stainless trim is another story for later!

On a previous 57 project I just cut the rubber along the windshield down to the SS trim. If the trim is anything like the tri-5's then it has a ""barb"" to retain it.

With regards to re-chroming the bezel, any reputable shop can strip and then repair and re-chrome. Just not cheap anymore.

..wish I could give you some advice but my 49 chev pickup is made totally different. As far as the stainless my guess it may be like my 58 Impala and there are special nuts from the inside so you have to take the headliner down and unturn them.
