rearend leaking where the axle tube is pressed into the housing can this be welded I was told pumpkin is cast and tube is steel anyone ever dealt with ths rear is gm 12 bolt thx
I've never had a leak there, but I have heard of them.
I think I'd try cleaning it really well with wire brush & a solvent. Final clean with a de-oiling solvent. Then JB Weld it.
If that doesn't fix it, the tube might be moving in the housing and welding might be a good idea.
It's common for drag race cars to weld the axle tubes to the housing as they are just a press fit with a spot weld, and can twist in the housing. Many use a NI-rod and begin by welding 4 evenly spaced spots around the joint on each side. This can be done in the car but the cover should be removed to relieve any pressure build up during welding.
