235/261 Inline six cylinder and Power Glide question.

A friend of mine has an opportunity to buy a complete and running 1961 Chevrolet 235 inline six motor and cast iron Power Glide. My question is, will this 1961 235 six/Power Glide bolt directly into a 1957 Canadian Pontiac. A friend of mine has a 57 Pontiac requiring a motor and tranny and he prefers the original look for his car. His 57 Pontiac was originally a 261/three speed stick that is no longer there. We are aware that the steering column and tranny mounts have to be changed. Would the drive shafts be the same for the 3 speed stick and Power Glide. Does the 1961 235 have the threaded bosses at the front for the motor mounts at the front. I realize that the 235/261 sixes had side motor mounts as of 1958 but was the front still threaded for front mounts or can there be some kind of conversion for side mounts on the 1957 Pontiac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks. George.

          answer

If you get a 55-57 Powerglide it will mount to your stock frame brackets and "will not" require a new crossmember.

It will also allow you to use your stock driveshaft.

It's been a while but I can recall an 1" cast adaptor plate ( have one) on the front of the original cast iron 2 speeds going to the 235. Will George need this or am I out to lunch. Can anyone refresh my memory? Can't remember if the adaptor plate is for standard/auto.

Several years ago my cousin and I put a 250 in his '55 Chevy. We put in the same type of side mounts kits the people use to side mount V8s in a Tri-five. Some 230s and 250s have an angled bracket from the factory to adapt the angle from the straight sides of the 250 to the angle of the V8 side mount kits. We located two of those brackets and it all bolted in to his frame.

I know they came on 60s pickups, but I'm not sure if they were on other vehicles.
