1973 Oshawa Built A-Body Air Conditioning

Does anybody know if Oshawa built cars could be ordered with air conditioning? Every Oshawa car I have owned (2 LeMans and 1 GTO) and every other one I have seen do not have air. Most US built cars seem to have air conditioning. Someone once told me A/C cars were not built in Oshawa.

Neither of my two 73's have had A/C, neither did our 76.

There is a statement on the 73 Sales Brochure that refers to engines that says Selection of 350 engine is dependent on equipment ordered. So what that means is there are three 350's listed two orange ones and on blue one. I never really thought about what that meant but if Oshawa wasn't building AC cars and a Canadian ordered one it would have to come from a US plant and it would have been a blue engine. I don't know the answer for sure but this might give us a clue.

owned  69 &  71 Caprice wagons both with AC, I never thought where they were built. Only assumed Oshawa or Quebec

There are members on here with 65-70  Parisiennes with AC. ;  Canadian cars.  A friend of mine had a 64 Impala with under dash AC dealer installed. But his 65 Impala

and later model Impalas had in dash AC

Several of the Australian Parisiennes cars seem to have AC

Those are both B bodies though Dale. I do know that the Frigidaire plant was on Eglinton Avenue in Scarborough right next door to the Old Golden Mile Chev Olds dealer at Pharmacy.

Just thinking ->  if this were true then an L-48 car could not be had with A/C but a 350 2bbl could. confuse I'm starting to doubt this idea that no AC cars out of Oshawa even though I can't remember seeing one. What about that beauty Carnut70ls4 bought in Calgary a month or so ago, it was a loaded 73 Luxury LeMans. Sure looks like an AC car.

Thanks Ray. I guess that sort of answers the question. It just seems that every 73-77 Oshawa built A-body I have seen in the US is non-A/C.

AC was very uncommon here in Canada in any car. My Father's first AC car was a 1980 Grand Prix and he started buying cars just after WWII, a 49 Chev was his first. My first two cars never had it either a 79 and 81. It wasn't until 86 that I started getting AC. So the fact that you don't see it in Canadian built cars isn't really a surprise.

Obviously a Customer ordered car, just like the 73 GLM above.
