95-98 GMC or Silverado split bench seat wanted

I know this is a non Pontiac parts wanted ad but I guess we don't have a section for this.

Anyway, I would like to change the front seat in my 97 Silverado to the split bench with the centre armrest. I currently have buckets/console.

Anyone (especially in the Winnipeg area) have or know of a gray front bench for a 95-98 GM pickup? It has to be the upper trim level, not base. Also, it has to be in REAL nice shape. I am willing to buy it outright or make a deal to swap my buckets and console for it.

Thanks.

Hi Carl - you have my curiosity here:

What is your reasoning, going from high back buckets/console to the premium split bench with fold down arm rest ??
- I had buckets in my 1992 extended cab 4x4 and thought they were quite comfortable, as far as trucks go
- had nice fold down arm rests
- and center console offered more storage & the cup holders worked good...I liked better than dash cup holder

Now I drive a 1998 Silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab with the upgraded bench seat interior.
And I have a 1993 Suburban I am parting out with mint buckets...console was already gone, when I picked it up.
I've been toying with the exact opposite idea...and the missing console would allow the dog to stand between the seats or rest on carpet.
- I would add the overhead console to my pickup cabin & I can still use my dash cup holder for Tims

Also, when did Chev. change interiors on the 1988-98 trucks...re. plastic door panels & dash ??
- my '88 & '93 door panels have squared off molded map pockets, etc. while the 1998 are restyled with curves

Maybe 1995-1998 has the same newer style pickup interior, so 1988-1994 are similar, but I really don't know.

Also told the 1998 cabs don't easily swap on a 1988 truck frame...something different with the steering columns/wiring harness (????).
- maybe you can shed some light on this, as well

One thing I do know, my favorite truck is my 1998...5.7L Vortex runs sweet & still love the pickup styling best, compared to new.

- I have already replaced the tailgate to a 1988 one out of TX with the steel arms

- had the newer torx bolts groove opened up on a lathe (~1/16" wider slot), now gone are the vinyl coated steel cables that eventually crack & fail

Next is a pair of Southern doors (found a USA stripped '98 regular cab with mint doors) & new rockers & cab corners installed next year.

- hence all the questions...future truck restoration on the cheap here

- need to generally know what fits & what doesn't, during the 10 year production

 Thanks, Larry

.....wish I had one to trade you for. I had a new 97 diesel with blue cloth buckets and those were the most comfortable seats ever I thought. Usually some kicking around on kijiji , give it a look or put a ad on your local as guys are parting out these trucks and should be something out there.

It's not that the seats are bad, I really miss my big center armrest that my 97 with the split bench had. Also, my wife has some health issues and found the split bench worked a lot better for her if we are in the truck for an extended time.

My concern is will I be able to find a seat comparable in quality to what I have. My interior is mint.

And I'm with you. I think the 95-98 GM pickups (new style interior) are one of the best ever made. I like the styling, the comfort, the ease of repair and sure like that Vortec. Yes, they have weaknesses, door handles, fuel pump etc but what vehicle doesn't?

1995 is the crossover year and many parts on a 1995 are unique to that year.I have parted out many of these trucks. My favorite is the 96-98 with a 350 vortec. Too bad you are so far Carl as there are still a lot of these trucks being parted out here.  The front seats had a problem with the vinyl always cracking on the drivers side lower portion due to our extreme cold weather. My friend just swaped in buckets and pulled his 60/40 but is keeping the original seat for a plow truck.Shipping would be a killer because of the size.

Thanks Carl & Albert for your advise, on the model years/design changes.

As we get older, these full size 4x4 trucks get harder to crawl into.
My wife fights this as well as my SIL getting into my brothers Z71.
Time has come for some of these:
- Bully BBS-1103 Aluminum Side Steps

Carl, hope you find the mint split bench seat your after.
One more question for you guys:

Did the good vortex engine, start in 1995 or '96 trucks ?

1996 is the good vortec 350. The 1995 is still the old style with a lot of one year only parts especially the engine compartment. My brother had a 1995 suburban and very little from the other year trucks would fit except for sheet metal. They even have their own wiring harnesses.when buying a parts truck try to get a 96-98 and stay with what you have Chev for chev gmc for gmc.
