any tips on what to use and how to replace tack material in the tack rails? like how to get it in and what to use as a replacement. I am in australia but see you can buy replacement generic tack material (a plastic/nylon material) from convertible top specialists on ebay US. is this the right stuff? how do you get it into the rail? thanks for your help in advance!

I bought some of that stuff to use, but ended up using marine plywood on the front sides that the pads staple to.
I fitted the plywood to the grove and steamed it to go around the corner, then I screwed it to the frame.
I don't know if that would work for the other places on the frame, screwing, as it may come out into the under showing side
Some of the original stuff on mine was stapled and looks like some was glued.
There are at least (2) different thickness for the replacement stuff.
Somebody else will probably come on and let u know what type of glue to use.
i had a sneaky suspicion it might not be straight forward. Thanks for your help!

It is true that early cars may have had tack strips made of a pressed cardboad material. The replacement tack strips are a hard vinyl material. The front strip is 5/8" x 1/8" and the rear strip 1/2" x 3/8" . Both cost $2.50 foot. Depending on the vehicle the strip may have been pressed in to the channel.
I checked with a high volume shop (a customer of mine) and they usually urethane the strips in place. You would want to clamp the strip in place for the urethane to dry. Takes about 24 hours.
thanks NOS, a couple of options there. hows shipping costs to australia?
