Great Vintage Niagara Dragway site.

I recently stumbled upon a older, but fantastic Niagara Dragway webpage.

I don't know if it has been posted before, and some may have already been through it, but it is chocked full of vintage Drag and people shots. Some Canadian shots as well. Well worth a look.

When I was 8 years old, my best friend's 17 year old brother took us both to Niagara in a clapped out old Valiant. He had also taken us twice to Cayuga, and I can still vaguely remember the late 60's drag vibe, I've actually stood beside Jungle Jim's and Color Me Gone funny cars and many more I can't remember. But I do remember the sounds and smell of it all. Unreal for a couple of 8 year old's.

Enjoy.

Mark, thanks for sharing all those wonderful drag racing memories. I spent over an hour looking at all those great old drag racing photos. Many Canadian and American drag racers that i remember. I found those four door drag cars really interesting. If you really take the time to look at all those drag racing photos, there is countless hours of entertainment there. Thanks again for sharing. Cheers. George.

Same here, I was there when I was little kid too, maybe 7-8, yup jungle Jim, Hawaiian punch, all the big names back in the day. Death Race 2000 was just released when I was there, saw it at some drive-in,. Good times

I've spent a good bit of time at the outlet malls on Military Rd over the years, and some very good times in Judys, and I had long forgotten that Niagara Dragway was only a kilometer or two directly to the east. It astounds me that there were so many big names that actually ran there.

If I lived there, I'd actually try to sneak in and make a "ghost pass" before nature completly claims it! There are shots on Yellowbullet (google image "Niagara Dragway") that show the condition today at track level. I think the left lane might still be passable lol.

I was there in the late 60's or early 70's with my old car club from Scarborough. [Canadian Motor car club] we went down with about 6 or 7 Street rods & part way the races the owner of the track came up to us & said the 'troopers' were waiting for us on the side road, as none of our cars met N Y min height clearance to the road???? they stop the races & we were allowed out a side gate, to road, & made a "BANZI" run back to the border with troopers "not too far" behind us!!! I was in a members  50 Prefect, SBC powered & hanging onto the roll bar as we Blasted towards the border & Canadian soil. Ah the memories of days gone by, & what you get away with!!!!!

Pete, be straight and honest with us. So what you are you telling us, is that those folks that ran the track, did not like you crazy Canadians. Pete, come on brother......tell it like it is. What is the straight goods on what happened when you and your club went to that track. WE CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH. Do you think that maybe, they just did  not like Canadians going there and maybe winning some races. Can you imagine us giving them the same attitude when they raced on our soil............. yea right. What is the story here. George.

No George, nothing like that, in fact, we thought it was pretty nice that they let us out the back gate, a way from the Troopers. The Cops followed us down the road to track but we got inside b-4 they could stop us. It was the American racers that told us all our cars were "too low" & one of our T/Buckets only had rear brakes, [ legal in Cda] but not there, + a few other "infractions" Just the cops looking to fill out their ticket books & quota's & get some CASH FLOW!!!! Just like the MOE is doing here to us for Emission infractions on our older modified cars. Pete
