400 SBC?

I'm stuck on what engine I want to install in my '70 Impala coupe. I have '72 400 sbc 4 bolter from a '72 Caprice I can go through or use the 350 9C1 out of worn out '86 Caprice (had a '91 9C1 350 gone through back in 2005 top to bottom for the '86 & runs sweet). What are your thoughts on the earky '70-'72 400 4 bolt main sbc in Pontiacs? My biggest fear is the overheating issues these engines had, and this is just for summer/spring daily stop and go traffic  and long road trips driving. The '70 has a 12 bolt rear with 2:73 highway gears and will have a 700R4  4 speed auto, thanks.

Yup, they would OH. Ran many in the race cars but those extra 50 cube save on HP upgrades. Found over the years you just need to run a good fan and rad. Ran the 7 blade truck fan ( wider blades with more pitch) Dropped 20 deg. Right fan and rad shouldn't be a problem. We ran ours at 4500-5500 non stop on the trac and we won 3 championships with the 400sb with 800 into it while other guys were 3-4g into their 350. Must have been the driver smilebiggrin

I have a radiator in excellent shape that was rebuilt for my 70 Parisienne just 2 years ago, it's a direct bolt in.  Also have the proper shroud.
