Paint Colors for Emblems

I know its probably been covered before...

Next thing to do is freshin up the Beaumont trim emblems, and wondering which colors are closest to factory..or, which model car paint is the closest? The red in the front emblem,(the spear on the grill and the one on the trunk) as well as the black in the V8 and the black in the trunk trim? Thinking the trunk trim is flat black?

Cheers!

.....after spending a lot of time buffing out the paint (still not great but presentable) I started

restoring the emblems.........too much pitting and colors were off..........was able to get all

the correct emblems from Dale's Muscle Cars in Bracebridge, On.......

I believe he is licensed by GM as the pieces have GM part nos...they were expensive

but well worth it

Paint reps & sometimes body shops have special 3-D scanners that can scan a colour and search a paint database to come up with the closest match. When I did some touch ups on my 250 crests I just borrow some red paint from my neighbor that he used to fill the "400" emblems on his 1972 Lemans. Unfortunately I don't recall the formula.

As for the black paint on the rear trim, if you are referring to the rear panel SD trim it probably was eggshell or satin black lacquer when new. Today's lacquer isn't worth a darn so I would recommend low-gloss black (not flat). Buying new trim isn't much of an option when it comes to 67 Sport Deluxe back panels; they are rare and expensive. Somebody did a small run of them years ago and the unit price came out to $1300!

Those repro emblems are a game changer for SD cars...now it's easy! Even with paying $12-1300 for the back peices, that's $2k and you have it all... Now I'm less worried about someone prying stuff of my car in a parking lot!!

It's easier to make an SD than a Custom now...

Ps. FWIW, I think the emblems were all satin from factory, not as glossy as these repros.
