I think the style he is looking for is likely the style where the lid and sides are one piece, the base is another. Kind of the opposite of the later design.

All I know is '64 283 2 barrel Chev (Impala etc.) air cleaners are like you describe, and '64 2 barrel Canadian Pontiac air cleaner is the top being one piece and the base & sides are the second piece. American and Canadian are opposite in manufacture (for '64 283 2 barrels anyway). Are 327 4 barrels different?

Good info. The Canadian Pontiac air cleaner for the 4 barrel 327 is the same configuration as the 283 2 barrel. Same snout also.
