I am refurbishing the clutch on a 261 cubic inch. Recently took the flywheel, pressure plate, and disc in to have these components serviced. In conversation with the shop owner I inquired if he could supply a new release bearing only to find there are two different sizes. Apparently one is thicker than the other. OOPS! I was sure I had kept the old bearing when I dismantled the clutch but alas I cannot find it. Any suggestion as to how I can determine which size bearing I will need?
The GM number in the parts book for your car says 909422. I went to a website called 4speedconversions.com and they say that number is 1 7/8" tall, New Departure number CT22. I hope that is enough information to help you get the correct part.

When I changed the clutch on my 1972 Ventura II ... in.... 1972 in my driveway, on a Sunday...
I called my buddy to open parts store and get me a clutch... He gave me a 327-350 clutch and a smaller release bearing to compensate for the bigger "fingers" on the clutch
To Carl and others who replied to my quandary. Thanks for your input. I decided to take one more look in the garage and there in a container I had previously overlooked was the bearing. Interestingly the depth of the bearing is 1.5 inches. On to the next problem.
Uh oh, how did that work?! I have no doubt that the GM number is correct. It said 59-61, all manual transmissions. The site where I got the info on interchange and size must be wrong.

Carl: The information from site you referenced is likely not incorrect, but rather, incomplete. When I take the bearing into clutch service provider I will ask him to provide measurements from both bearings. Likely mine is the thinner of the two. I'll let you know.
