After two weeks of research and measuring I finally got my disc brake conversion done. I used stock spindle with 2000 malibue rotor and caliper. Had to take 1/8 off hub to get rotor to fit over hub the rest was almost just bolt up except for machining drum brake backing plate bolt and makeing my own spindle to caliper bracket. It only increased my trac width by .437 or 7/16. All in about 300.00 and if I ever need rotors there 30.00 each and on the shelf at jobber.
O.k. To start I will list parts needed for the swap. All parts are off a 2000 chevy Malibu. Got the parts through my brotherinlaws shop at cost, so if you have a connection it'll save you a few bucks.Rotors ( LORDCO PART # ) 55040 30.00ea x 2= 60Brake caliper and bracket ACDELCO#18fr1214Gm#19141420 105.00ea x 2=210 their is a $40 core on each so if you can find some old ones for a core 210-80=130 Raybestor pads part# PGD727C 60.00 4-10.9x 1 1/4 metric grade 8 bolts to mount caliper brackets2-7/16x3 NF grade 8 bolts to mount steeringarm and adapter plate.Bolts 10.00 2- stainless brake lines 18" 30.00ea x 2= 60 had a hydraulic shop make mine up1 small tube Locktite 6.00 TOTAL= 326.00 with core return406.00 withoutNext I'll do the procedure
The first thing I did was zipwheel the backing plate anchor bolt (the one that hols the springs)File and grind the head flat or turn on a lathe. Next, Had to turn the hub down on a lathe from org 6.125" to 5.84" for rotor to fit over.
Next was to move onto the spindle, had to shave the backing plate mounting hub down. forgot to measure before I started, so i only have the finished measurement (1.396) from backing plate hub to rotor. I'd say there is room for .020 either way . You can get this machined or grind it and alot of filing. If your going to grind it yourself, wrap tape around hub as a guide. Once close file and measure all four sides of the hub to rotor to make sure it is parallel to rotor face. You will need to have the berring in the hub and rotor bolted to the hub. Slide rotor and hub on and off spindle to take measurements.
Now onto the caliper brackets. Had no pattern to go buy so it was just old fashion cut and grind, cut and grind etc untill I got it just right. The brackets are made of 3/8 flat plate. Was thinking of going 5/16 but didn't know if that would be thick enough. The advantage of 5/16 plate is that on the lower steering arm mount there would be no machining. If you use 3/8 plate you have to take 1/16 off the lower caliper bracket bolt hole boss or 1/16 off the mounting plate where it contacts the spindle, to get the caliper bracket centered on the rotor. Corner to corner of bracket is 8 1/4" lenght is 7 1/2". Should be able to blow up pic and print fairly close.
I chose to machine 1/16 of my caliper bracket, only on the lower mounting bolt boss. The main thing with this setup is to dry fit everything and make sure your rotor is centered on the bracket and that the bracket is at least 1/8 off the outside surface or O.D. with the anti rattle shims in, also you may need longer studs depending on what rims you are running.

No permit,just don't get stuck in Druncan and make it an 8 hour trip.

Thanks Mark. Using a 9" s10 booster as long as it clears the coil pacs on the LS. Going to run tandem, daul left and right outlet port master. Too tight to spring tower to have brake lines on left side. Prop valve out of mid 70's Ventura/Nova. Seems all parts are for a Corvette?
