Softening and removing door panel vinyl?

Want to put new cardboard on back of panels but vinyl is hard and brittle, worried about cracking it. Anyone ever tried to soften it up somehow? They don't repop these so I would like to try to save and redye. Front ones are a bit worse but think I can save. Thanks Jim

Get yourself some cow skin,have the Mrs. knarl on it till soft,dye it and redo buddy.

I would think steam would be a good option to loosen the glue from the vinyl and cardboard.

 Just gave me an idea. Think an iron with a towel between would work? The main thing I'm looking for is to soften the vinyl.

 Better off to hang it and let her beat on it with a broom instead of me. Don't mind marks in my back......but not from a broom!!biggrin
