Starting to put the interior back into our 66 Impala which I assume is the same as a 66 Pontiac.

When the rear package tray was removed it was just a piece of old carpet, all the OEM stuff was gone, so

there is no reference.

Now I have an insulating pad and a new cardboard package tray from NOS and was wondering about the

fit as the pad is not quite exact as the cardboard tray.

There is a lip at the bottom of the rear window glass that the stainless trim attaches to with 3 screws,

does the pad and the tray both slide under this lip or just the tray - it won't take both without some force and

I don't think it takes both which means the insulating pad will require some trimming.

Anyone here replace the rear package tray on a 66 'B' body Pontiac or Chev?

 

Any help appreciated

       I need a new one for my 1966       I will go take a photo (as its 2 piece) and see if I can help    wait right there....

THAT was interesting biggrin   first time, I was ever in the back seat of my car....(yes really)  

 It looks like the panel is thick to the edge, and then, "just the top" goes under the lip (on my car)

I wonder if I can get a parcel shelf to fit mine? from NOS?    

I though that I would have to get a American Grand Prix parcel shelf because of the different roof line......

hi Bernie; the pad may need a minor trim. The pad does not go under the window trim. I believe the pads are generic for a 65-70 B body. Yes Carl the Canadian GP needs the US GP package tray

I got one from NOS. It's very nice. I had to trim it just a tiny bit.

So far I'm not happy with the fit but that is because I am trying to put some insulation under it and the stuff I have is too thick. I need to find some thinner softer stuff. It would fit nice if I had a thinner softer sponge.

         So, I should be hearing that they (NOS) can supply?   great !    

        They seem to be listed (on the net) as with holes for 1 speaker, or no speaker holes at all    

        I think a no speaker will do for me, as the car has no speakers, front or back, and radio makes no sound and the power antenna is permanently down lol

The NOS piece comes in black, it's like a vinyl covering.

Very nice piece. I just need to find the right underlay for it. I haven't looked yet but it will be easy to find what I need.

Yes, factory rear speaker has mesh, no rear speaker in the rear deck is a solid cover.

        Mine must have been swapped out in the last 49 years wink   no rear speaker     am radio, power antenna..    

        Were no some of the car not have the speaker in the grille in the rear seat ??

Hi Bernie

I did the tray on my 66 Parisienne with the cardboard. Your deck looks as if someone did a modification to it in the area were the rear defrost would sit. It should be easy to put in the insulation as long as it only goes up the back towards the window about an inch or so. I have a couple of pics to show what my looks like. Hello 427carl

The sail board I purchase from Bowtie Restoration in Langley B.C. but I am not sure as to were he got it. I had to have the vinyl changed because it came with teal blue instead of the medium blue that my interior is. The vinyl I purchase from SMS auto in Oregon.

.......WOW - does that ever look nice.........thanx for the pics and the info,

hope mine comes out like that.........one more thing.....

Is it necessary to remove the sail boards from their position to install the parcel shelf and

does the stainless headliner trim need to be removed to get the sail boards off?

My sail boards are in ok condition but the stainless headliner trim seems to have been

urethaned in and may not come out w/o damage.

Really appreciate your help.

Sorry to have to say so but I can't see any other way. The sail boards sit over the parcel shelf and the sail boards are partly held in place with the stainless trim. I do recall that my stainless was also held in with some of the urethane but it came out fine, just have to be slow and patient. Hope this is of some help.

 .......just the shelf in right now........will try and rehab the sail panels if that doesn't work then I'll order

a couple from Dale then put the window trim in and then take a pic........but workin' on swappin' trannies
