I am helping a good buddy of mine with his 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. It has a 403 V-8 Oldsmobile motor in it and i just replaced all the valve stem seals on the motor. My question to the brotherhood that might know is this. What is the best procedure to adjust the valve lifters while the engine is running. I have put the nuts where they were previously but now i want to do the final adjustment with the motor running. Is it 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn or full turn to put the lifter at 0 lash and fully adjusted after the backing off to let it tick. I do not want to under or over tighten for obvious reasons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. George.

George, believe there is no adj. on those Olds engines, does it have a short rocker strap across the int. & exh. rockers??? If so you just crank em down full[ but equally or you'll break the rocker strap] & lifters will adj. themselves!!! Similar to the US Poncho's theres no adj. on those either but they don't have that rocker strap!!! Pete

It's been a while, and I've never rebuilt an Olds engine but I recall selling the "pivot" as GM calls it for those engines. I'm pretty sure you just tighten them down, no adjustment.
