Thats highway robbery 83, for that kind of money you can buy yourself brand new headliner and bows (if needed) and install yourself, its quite straight forward, only couple hours to install, not 6-8. 6-8 for headliner, carpets, door panels and put seats back.
Shop here in Port Perry charges close to $800. friend down the street did his own, 2 person job & took him a whole wknd. to do it!!!! Not an easy job by any means!!!!!

I installed my headliner, sail panels and trim by myself in a couple hours, if that. Free. Sure isn't a two man job. The only way I'd pay someone is if it was custom made.
Absolutely, but I wouldn't take it to upholstery shop, I'd go to upholstery shop and tell guy what you are doing, even show him, ut all i would get from guy is the thread, heavy nylon, and stitch that one seam by hand using the existing holes, upholstery guy machine most likely won't line up. 83 I would put headliner in yourself, start first bow at first section closest to rear window and work towards windshield, there's a choice of three holes per section that bow goes into, each side of car, start with middle hole if you can't see where bow was originally set. The bow just clips onto the roof in the middle. Now check the excess material that goes to rear window, that fold needs to line up again,unclip bow and move bow forward or back in those holes. The rest of headliner a cake wake from there. Install the dome light and coat hooks last. While your headliner is out, check your roof insulation, replace if necessary, it keeps condensation from forming and dripping water on headliner during cold days.

Tha5 insulation is important to be there, if its not looking good replace it, if car doesn't have it, put it in, not only does it help control condensation from ruining your interior, trust me it will and you won't know until you pull rear seat and see mold and nasties everywhere, it will act as a sound deadner too. The plastic window to headliner seals are being reproduced if yours are deteriorated by the sun, the come in black paint to match, not a cheap kit for pieces of plastic, but at least they're available

that s another issue.....i looked arround for those and they are available for 120.00 a set i have to find the side trim for the head liner also
i need to find a supplier to get the right paint for the trim ( my interior is fawn ) like i was saying in the last thread , the actual head liner is in good shape except for that 1 seam that is un sewn so i could remove it have it sewn and............ reinstall it
by the way my int door panels are ordered from S M S should get them before chrismas they will be my gift from me to the Beaumont

Alana at advanced coatings here in Calgary can reproduce interior factory colors in spray can for you. Search "interior paint" in search box, whole thread on interior paint. SMS is world leader in interiors, the door panels they send you I'm betting will be from lemans gto, same panel as Beaumont except they are a little bit wider and will need to be modified, easy enough.
She has all manufacturer paint chips, samples and codes, interior and exterior as far back as early 40s, she uses ppg paint. All I did was go to Lowe's home depot etc got paint sample cards and matched it up to interior then send her the card, she'll photograph and analyze its make up and duplicate it for you into the spray can and mail it to you. Please use proper breathing mask, the paint is strong, brutal, smells like it has lacquer in it.
If you find yourself getting small wrinkles in headliner you can warm up material (in wrinkle area with) your wifes blow dryer and pull tight. When material cools and shrinks it will be tighter and wrinkles wont come back.
I did 3 of these for cars that I own/owned and 4 for friends now. Not difficult, not easy. Takes me about 2 nights to do them correctly and tight. Thought this was the better of most of the "How To" videos. I know it is not the same car, but the basics apply. Lots of others found on youtube also.

well i have some real good news that make this task a lot easier
like i was saying on this thread the headliner its self is in good shape and the seam that needs repair is the last one by the rear window so what there is to do is just take donw that part maybe to the next seam and simply sew it . then put back that section in place
i just have to figure out if i have to remove the sail panels for this operation , i want to dismantle the less possible
Indian and the other s who helped me on this one , do you have any advice on a very partial headliner removal and reinstall

Take entire headliner out and fix seam properly, the headliner is only clipped into place. Headliner is old and fragile, it will start to tear if you leave it in and try stitching it, tug here tug there now you have a hole. Sail panels are clipped into place.
As Indian says take out the whole headliner. Clean and paint bows so you don't get any rust bleed through. Some headliners have a master bow in the middle that don't float. Start by hooking bows at the back and work towards center then attach master bow in center, once this is attached to roof work your way to the back again pulling tight as you go. Master bow will not move since it is attached directly to roof but rest of bows can move until tight. Measure headliner and put pencil mark in middle on back side then mark center of roof, this will help make sure you have same amount of material on each side. Don't know if this is the right way to do it but it's the way I've done a couple and worked out fine with no wrinkles.

i would attemps taking down the last 16 or 18 inches and checking out if it can be sewn in place first......
Louis, sounds like a smart move. If it's in that good of shape, I'd try to save it, and save some $$$ also. Even if you have to take the whole headliner out, it just might need the seam stitching reinforced throughout. Hopefully the fabric isn't weak.
