i may have mentioned haveing a sun roof hole in a 68 beaumont, have found a cople donors . Ones a chevelle body that would require changing out the dash panel. the other is a beaumont that im thinking of changing the entire roof from pillar to pillar. thing is i dont see how to access the inside of the rear pillars behind where sail panel is,to reweld. would drip rail be able to come off with roof as one piece? I realize changing roof is bigger job than dropping a body on but beaumont has other usefull parts (frame, dash, rear seat spings ,1/2 a grille rest is rough) . Had the piece that was cut out in trunk and i had it tacked in with no warps until i started filling it in,then it started warping Hints ,guidance ,knowledge ,common sense and opinions would be geatly appreciated
You would never het roof contour back with piece of sheet metal. Vinyl roof is easiest for sure, lay down a bucket of glue all over your roof, awesome. The roof is one section, sleeved into A pillars, rear panel the roof comes down about four inches to meet up with the full quarter section pillar and is welded. Look at a full quarter section for your car, you'll see how far up that C pillar goes up. I have ways of pulling those roofs without touching dash, don't know why you need to touch the dash, and replacing them, its what I would do if it was my car and no vinyl roof for me, clean lines. With a extra hand I could have the roofs swapped in a day, not finished just swapped.
BUY A NEW ROOF SKIN get a used inner support do the job right the first time ,,,,,, to patch up the roof would take a miracle to make it look good i have been a body man for 30 years
Roof contour will never be the same, unless you want chip goose style bondo sculpting, its not like roof hasn't been changed before, lots of chopped tops around, couple inch chop.

OR buy a roof skin.... they filled in a sunroof on a Velocity car show filmed in England nice work less than a hour lol
Make a redneck potato hauling convertible out of it!
Seriously, you'd have to replace more than just the "hole" metal ... it would depend on how skilled you are, and to what level of metal-work you want to get into.

First gen Camaro and Firebird have a drip rail. I swapped the roof skin from a good non-vinyl roof to my rotted out one. Did most of the work in one day, on my own. Had to repair a section at the top of the A-pillar which set me back a few hours. Just need to finish plug welding the front and back into place.
So I would concur with Indian, a roof skin is an 8 hour job.
