the Dodge Challenger was crash tested way back in 2008 when it first hit the market with a floorpan stamping that can accommodate a manual transmission.
The Charger, though, was crash tested and approved by the government two years earlier with the automatic-transmission floorpan stamping only, which means it would need to be completely recertified for sale in the US, with new crash tests included, if Dodge decided to offer it with a six-speed manual.
That's an expensive proposition, especially considering how few manual models Dodge would ever sell.
We just got word the Hellcat Challenger we ordered at work has been built. Should be arriving soon. I'm looking forward to taking one for a drive. I hope they handle well. I'll need to deke around numerous potholes!

I bought the 2015 Challenger SRT-not the Hellcat-same car with less horsepower(only 485 LOL) and I will tell you the car drives really well.Hellcats are few and far between-alot of guys are going to be dissapointed that they put money down and are not going to get one. They wayyyyyyyyyyyy oversold the Hellcats-Challengers that is.I only have about 180 km's on the car so far,but it is very very nice to drive-and it goes great!! Never been a real Dodge fan,but I when I wanted a newer muscle car-the Challenger fit the bill much better than the new Mustang or Camaro. If you sit in the new Challenger you'll see what I mean.Dodge has done a fantastic job on the re-design of the interior, and it has more bells and whistles than I even know how to use ...yet! We have to deek around tons of pothole here in the Peg!

You're a lucky guy John; and I agree on the Challenger being the nicest modern muscle car out there ... Dodge did do it right.

I drove an SRT Challenger on the autobahn a couple of years ago... 250 km/h and it was still going! That thing is a missile!
Automatics do a faster and more efficient job of shifting. And I hate them for the most part. With paddle shifters and proper up and downshift maps I could live with one. I drive a 6-speed manual daily in traffic and I prefer it.
It's ironic that my Chevelle has a 2-speed automatic. It is not as bad as you would think.

The refreshed look of the Charger is really starting to grow on me. Don't discount the 3.6 V6 if you just want a daily driver. They move quite well. They move even better in the lighter 200 (front drive though). I drove one home (a 200) the other night and the acceleration really reminded me of the supercharged Buick Regal GS I used to own.
A regular SRT is plenty fast for me. Sounds funny calling them regular! The SRT Challenger I drove, and let 'er rip had bad wheel hop when you dump the clutch and hammer it with the traction control off. it was a 2011. Very fast, but if I were buying one as I was considering then, trading my Daytona in, I would go for the automatic. Maybe Im getting too old. But the automatics shift so nice, firm and fast!!
