Looking for a 261 inline six cylinder motor. American buyer in Chicago, Illinois area.

I know a gentleman in the Chicago, Illinois area that is looking for a 261 in line six of any vintage from 1955 to 1962. Mike is his name and he bought  my extra 261 last March for his 1951 Chev ragtop. Mike is looking for another 261 for another project of his that he is working on. Mike is probably willing to go to your  door and pick it  up because that is what he did with me, this past March. Send me your name, phone number and information on your 261 six and i will pass it on to him. I would imagine that there would be a limit as to how far he is willing to drive to get your 261 motor. Cheers. George.

You might want to try placing an ad on kijiji S-W- Ontario. Thats not too bad of a drive from Chicago to the Windsor-Sarnia area.

There's got too be a few parts cars around our area.

Earl, the ad would have to be placed by Mike in Chicago. He asked me about a possible 261 for sale and i did not know of one. I told him i would ask the C.P. brotherhood and see what happens. Cheers. George.

George, I have a couple of 261's but the condition are unknown. I never started either one but both had antifreeze in them and still turned over. One is still in a 55 stationwagon parts car that is complete and I could possibly try and get it started. My location is a definate negative factor but if he is really stuck and wants to go for a really long drive Chicago to Timmins I would help him out.

How much did it cost to get the 261 head completely overhauled. Did you mill the head and how much did they remove to clean it up.With all I have read on 261 engine over the years the best head to start with would have been a 1962 head because it has has the smallest combustion chamber giving the 62 engine the highest compression.

I also have a set of Ertel high compression pistons for the 261 that have a very substantial dome on them but have never found out what the compression would be because I have not run across an Ertel catalogue.

Al, could you please PM me your information to pass on  to Mike. The cost to completely redo the head was $700. The head was milled but i am not sure how much was taken off. I was told the head was in excellent shape in that regard and also there were no cracks what so ever. I hope i can get your 261 sold to Mike. Cheers. George.
