I am sorta looking for ... kinda wanting to buy a low buck Pontiac (57 - 70) ... for just cruising around ... attending show and shines etc ...
Not looking for a high dollar car (below 10K) means that it might take some time to find one.
Anyways ... I know of a fellow around here has a collection of old Pontiacs ...mostly low dollar ... mostly 4 door stuff ... which probably falls into my price range. He has been known NOT to sell anything. I called him up anyways ... you never know. He kinda hems and haws ... then says he has a 66 Laurentian he would let go ... because he really wanted a 66 Parisienne for his collection. It is a 4 door ... local car ... so I guess it is a 4 door post ... he says it has been gone through (as in working good) ... and has some kind of big honking engine in it. He didn't know off hand what size. He is gonna think on the matter a little more and see what other cars he might be willing to sell ... if any.
Well! A 66 4 door Laurentian was not really on the top of my list ... but a ''big honking engine'' has me intrigued. After a little bit of research ... seems like the 66 could have a 283, 327, 396 or 427. I doubt it is a 427 because it would be a manual car ... and he didn't mention that it was a manual ... so I am assuming automatic. It might not be an original Canadian Pontiac (Chevrolet) engine either ... but it is interesting enough for me to want to go take a good look at it.
I hope to get around to this as soon as he has finished pondering. It probably won't be anything to write home about ... but even a wild goose chase has some excitement to it ... at least at the start
Definitely keep us posted! Hearing of an an original big block of any kind still in the car it came with in a Canadian poncho is kind of an event especially in the lower trim series. As far as i have been told by George Zapora years ago about 3200 396's were put in all Canadian produced Chevies and Pontiacs of all models in 1966. Both types of 427's are so rare as to be the holy grails of that year.
About 1973 I passed on a light blue or teal 1966 Laurentian 4 dr sedan, 396, 4 speed bench in Summerside, PEI as it had a weak clutch. Still regret not buying it as it was a nice clean car. Could this be the same car 40 yrs. later ?? !!
Post pics if you can.
Cool story Stephen, I would be cool to see this car.
I'll keep my eyes/ears open. I usually post about (5) cars for sale in NB/PEI weekly on this site.

Even if it's a 'transplant" & body & underside are good, would be a good entry level car to start out with, Now if it's the 4 gear car, Drive line is worth a good $ for your next car, [If price is right]

If it is a 396 and the body is good ... i am a taker at $7500. I might even bite on a 327! That's what he said he wanted $$ for it. But we shall see ... I am waiting on his call ... might take a little while ... he is still pondering ... and I will bring the camera ...
As far as it being a manual car, a 427 could be had in 66 with either a Muncie for speed or a Turbo 400, so just knowing the transmission won't give it away necessarily. Make sure that if he tells you it's a 427, check the block code on the driver's side rear of the block behind the head. A 396 is very desirable, a 427 is VERY desirable! Even with a 327 it would be a cool car.
I will be watching for pictures!!!

I spoke to the person who does the mechanic work for the car collection. Seems that the big honking motor is actually a later 350 with a very lumpy cam ... it was to be expected I guess. I won't even bother to go see that one. The hunt continues ...
