I have a schematic at home, but I'm away for another week or so. The speaker will be a standard 8 to 10 ohm resistance. Does it have a built in fader for the rear speaker? Or just a single front speaker?
I had a problem with the am radio in my 72 GMC, no output. I removed the radio, and found that with the cover off it worked with my arm hovering above the radio. Problem ended up being the antenna input coil was fried, so components were replaced. Works great since then.
In your note below, you indicate the transistor has been replaced. Which transistor? I'm thinking if it's the amplifier transistor, it may have originally been a germanium transistor, not silicone. I know this is technical talk, but if they replaced it with a silicone one, they may add to your problems.
They were unable to fix it ! The schematic was too late!
Thanks anyway Carl, I appreciate it 😀
Charged me $45.00 for the check.
They replaced the germanium driver transistor and the output transistor .
They told me they don't want it back , wasted about 3 hours on it.
They're working on a 68 Beaumont radio that had a FM conversion & a
Aux output on the back (modified with a circuit board) for somebody.
It has static when volume up down, hopefully they can fix that !
Talked to Dave (the tin man) he will take it back for a full refund
or exchange it next time he gets one.
Either that or send it to the States for a conversion ?
I'd suggest sending it to Bill at Carola Radio in Edmonton. He has the schematics and parts. He's fixed the AM/FM Stereo units in my 2+2's that were both dead, and also the AM in my 72 GMC. As indicated earlier, the antenna input coil (L1) was cooked on it.
That sounds better than sending it to the States .
I installed it not working for the next few car shows, then I'll decide
What direction to go with it.
Thank you very much for your help on this .
It would be nice and nostalgic to here the old center dash
Speaker make some noise some day.
I'll pursue the in glove box Hi perf stereo this winter for a project.
Thx
Bill in Edmonton is great and very reasonable if you want to retain it as an AM radio. I went to his place and he must have a thousand or more old radios there and he is an old radio genius. I would suggest Wood's radio at the coast and get the Am/Fm conversion as well as access for your phone or ipod. Probably the best $400 I spent on my car as it looks original to still qualify for collector plates and works like a charm.
