Well boys after going to my buddies shop and reminded that he's built rear ends for my son and few other guys that drag at Cayuga,he's building my 12 bolt. As I was shooting the s....t with him I noticed a 409 under his bench.Damn now do I go for it,or stick with a 383 or 406??I think the 409 would look good in that Acadian?

If you run a W-motor in a Chevelle / Beaumont or Acadian / Chevy II, prepare yourself for fabbing a custom oil pan.
With everything else im doing what the hells a oil pan?lol
You are wright Beau,it would look kool.

409 would look cool in there, but a tight fit. More the question should be....whats it going to take to blow your sons doors off and how much $$$$ do you want to spend to do it? Tough 1, guess you'll have to sit down have a and think about it. Second thought, 409.....1 of 1.

'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
I say do a LS and save the 409 for a 61 Pontiac!
More power cheaper, easier, and way lighter. Weight is a huge factor in building an Acadian.
I understand wanting a W-engine though.
That car runs great. Of course it's not a street engine but it has to be making about 750 hp. (with ported factory heads)
If you skip ahead to the 3:07 mark of this video you can see that car run. I like the way the car sounds,,, and the wheelie in second gear is pretty cool too.
Im still molling it over, but those vids got me thinking more jim ss409.I do like the kool factor
but still want to drive it most everyday and be able to afford the gas lol.Wife will have to get
a second gas money job for me.I know the engines not going anywhere so I got time to think
more on it.Still have to finish the car 1st.

This is one instance that a small block wins out over a big block in my opinion. The 409 just doesn't seem to fit the profile or intended use of the Canso in my opinion.

You would get much better power out of the small block at a much cheaper price.
LOL, that's not quite 100% true. YES you can build more power with the SB IN SOME CASES, like max'ed out 450+" SB2.2 we have that have been WELL over 1050 Hp. Or a pump-gas SB2 that was about 760. BUT most normal builds with normal parts that guys do on here will not be much more then what the W409 can make Hp wise. AND there's a ton more to getting the car down the track then just Hp.
I know the 409 I got of Jim above on this thread, went 12.40's in a 4500+ car. Hyd roller, 4.10's and 9.4 to 1 compression. BUT that same same motor went 10.32 in the Pontiac is Jim's avatar @ 3250 according to him. BUT it did change to solid roller and bigger carbs. It is harder to keep the tires from spinning with the 409. And that's about the 550hp version.
YES a SB will most likely be cheaper in comparison to a W but now we have made I believe more power most on the planet with a SB, either N/A or FORCED INDUCTION in my friends cars. BUT no one has tried to maxed out, no-holds-barred W to compare. I don't think a W can make the power the N/A SB has made? But then again, I haven't seen an "unlimited budget" 409 either.
BEST bang-for-the-buck by far in a Acadian is a Mark IV BBc. oval port headed, hyd roller came, mild compression is an easy recipe for 10's. 10-1 454+ mild rub on a set 781's, Holley Strip dom 4150 flange intake, 260/270 duration cam and your pretty much there. Dollar wise, NEITHER the 409 or a SB will come close.
Im staying away from the 409 boys.I need to come to reality at times plus my budget.
So its going to be sb, or LS.Next puzzle for me as the car is stripped down to nothing
now.Which 1 to do?? Should do a poll on this to make up my mind for me
383-406 or LS??

I did the 415 stroker thing to my 66 rag-I felt bad after I did it-I ruined the car.Way too quirky, loud and just was not really a great motor-lots of power though. My wagon had a 383 stroker in it that my buddy Gary built and it was a way way nicer motor without all the goofy stuff you get with building something from a 400 block.Made nicer power than the 415 did.The 383 was just a nicer motor all the way around. It would be my choice.
