Canadian Poncho Stainless Steel Laser Cut Keychains and Nameplates now available!

This is a project we have been working on for quite a while. CP member Gayne Jacobs (firsdancebridalcars) has been working feverishly to produce two exceptional collectible Canadian Poncho Items. Gayne lives in New Zealand and with the help of the talented folks at Stainless Design of Hamilton, New Zealand, we are happy to announce the availablity of these two items.

First we have this exceptional Key Ring. Here is a photo of the Key Ring in it's initial design phase at Stainless Design:

LaserKeyRing.jpg

Once they were happy with the design a prototype was laser cut. Happy with the prototype, one hundred pieces were produced. Each piece had to be hand inspected and de-burred as needed. The result is fantastic!

Keyring2.jpg

Next I asked Gayne if the gang at Stainless Design could create a nameplate in the spirit of the original metal nameplates dealers would install on new vehicles back in the 50's and 60's. After much work they came out with this great looking nameplate!

Nameplate1.jpg

Nameplate2.jpg

The fine detail is incredible!

Namplate2.jpg

Each nameplate has four strong magnets to allow you to attach it to your toolbox, firewall or exterior sheet metal (I strongly recommend a thin piece of material (or something similar) be placed between the magnets and your paint to prevent scratches!).

Nameplate5.jpg

Both Gayne and myself have quite a bit of money invested in this project and we truly hope you will support our endeavor. We have tried to keep the cost as low as possible given the cost of materials, labour and shipping to Canada from New Zealand.

Here are the costs of each item:

Key Ring : $24.00 Cdn plus taxes if applicable

Nameplate: $35.00 Cdn plus taxes if applicable

Shipping is a flat rate of $5.00 in Canada or USA if one item is ordered. PM me for a shipping quote if you wish to order more than one item or live outside of Canada/USA.

Quantities are limited to 100 Key rings and only 37 Nameplates.

Please note both of these items have sharp edges and should be kept away from children! We are not responsible for damage created to your vehicle due to improper installation!

You can use the handy Paypal "Add to Cart" button below to order. If you wish to pay by another method please PM me.

We greatly appreciate your support!

Please put my name on one of each plus a new mug, and let's see if we can save you some money on shipping by getting a group buy out of Winnipeg.

As a frugal Winnipegger, I'll put an order in for the Key chain and mug. Would also like to be included in Carl's idea for saving on the shipping charges.

Perhaps Carl could open up a western distributorship. smile

Perhaps those in the Winnipeg area could PM Carl with their needs and then Carl could send me a list. I think that would be the easiest for me. Is that ok with you Carl?

Sure, I can get the order all ready and then send it to you, they can pay you separately though (unless I'm just supposed to buy it for all of them!!!)

I would prefer to get it shipped to a Winnipeg address though so the guys can get their stuff sooner.

I have a busy winter ahead of me (at least my evenings and weekends) and it may not include a lot of extra trips to the city for coffee breaks etc.

Only a handful of these items have been sold guys. Maybe I need to post this in separate forums? I wonder if some folks aren't seeing this thread.

I want to take the time tonight to make up two separate threads for a Winnipeg group buy for these items plus the mugs. Hopefully that will help some.

The nameplates look even better in person.

I choose to put mine in my grill, with the lighter colour of our car it didn't show up like it should on the paint.

Now to give it a good polish.

The nameplate looks great there!

I need to sell 17 nameplates and 50 keychains to break even. I've sold 8 nameplates and 12 keychains so far. These dismal sales figures have put myself in a tight situation. I still owe SEVERAL hundred dollars to Gayne in New Zealand who fronted the costs of producing these items. Keep in mind I also still have to cover site costs. This can't go on for too long. 35 nameplates on a website of 4500 members should not be so hard to sell. Same with 100 keychains. Right now I'd be happy just to break even! So, for those of you who have NEVER contributed to the website, I ask you to consider the benefits you have received from Canadian Poncho, be it in finding hard to find parts and cars, selling your parts or car, or just getting good information on these great Poncho's.  Both Gayne and I were really excited to offer these items to members of Canadian Poncho. They were designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts and the fact they were made in New Zealand made them (in our opinion) a little more special. Needless to say we are very disappointed with the poor response we have received.

I do know I will be thinking long and hard before taking on another project like these items again. The financial strain is too much.

Glad you're happy with the emblem. To make it stand out more perhaps you could put something coloured behind it. We hadn't thought about them going on the grills because there wasnt too much for the magnets to cling to. Just wondering if it would be an idea to put some small wire around it to make it a bit more secure? Don't want it popping off over a speed bump!

Thanks for the advice Gayne.

My thought was to do it like we did our Club emblem that I attached to my grill.

I'm going to drill 1 hole in it below the n & c in Poncho and use a stainless steel bolt to attach it with a backing on the other side.

I think once I have it polished up like my grill emblem it might show up better.

Excellent idea Terry.

Just be aware that if you do polish it, you'll lose the 'brushed' finish, and possibly the triangle etch. But I'm assuming you want it in the same style as your current Iron Indians badge, so both matching would look good.

We had a few badges made that were polished, not brushed, and what we did was put a clear-coat on afterwards which keeps the shine and makes it easy to clean.

Pictures 4 and 5 at the top of this thread show a polished finish with clear-coat, which was one of our early efforts. We ended up going with the brushed finish beacuse it doesn't show up marks and fingerprints like a polished finish would.
