14" Pontiac hubcaps

An old friend called me tonight looking for some hubcaps for a 1959 Pontiac he helping someone fix up.

He's looking for full wheel discs if possible and stock type 14" wheels as well.

Anyone have any hubcaps available??

Any other years the same as 1959??

Thanks

Randy

There are 4 14 inch for a 64 on Kijiji Halifax for $100, with spinners. I know you want 59, but maybe for this price they'd be good until you find a set for a 59? Or maybe someone else wants them?

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/city-of-halifax/1964-14-pontac-hubcaps/1120063303

Stock 14 inch rims likely had nubs on the rim to hold the hubcaps on by the way, I think the same wheel up to 62. How original is he looking for?

Appreciate the reply's!!

I don't think he's fussy on the wheels, as he hopes to cover them with full wheel disc style hubcaps. As I remember the 1962 and older had to be mounted up side down on a tire machine to install tires, is this correct back to 1959.

As to regular 14" steel wheels, any 5 on 4 3/4 should fit shouldn't they??

Even stock type wheels are getting scarce but 14" S-10 should fit, shouldn't they??

Only time I ever had a problem putting newer 14" wheels on an older car was a 1964 Bel Air, 1970 Chevelle SS 14" wheels hit the outer tie rod. Hard to believe now but those SS wheels weren't very well liked at the time. They were very cheap to buy used, as they were only 14" and most got replaced with 15" slots etc. Most people thought it was dumb to run 14" wheels on a Chevelle with a 396 or 454, even the mighty LS6 ran 14"s

I'll pass on the CS ad but I think he wants something less fancy, I'd be very happy with them myself, but he has some aftermarket mags and wants it to look as close to stock as possible. I even suggested some 15" as I have a set but he wants 14",

I know I'm probably dreaming, but anyone know of a Canadian Pontiac hub cap illustration chart showing the various styles around the time frame, I looked at some inline brochures and 1959 to approx. 1961 seemed close.

Any more possibility's on 14" would be appreciated!!

Thanks
Randy

The backspacing stock is about 4 1/2 inch, stock will also not fit over disk brakes, if the car was modified. I had no issue with 59-62 wheel mounting, used a regular machine and balancer. The nubs on those 62 and older wheels also held certain types of stock hubcaps on the wheel, so I'd find the hubcaps first. Then make sure they fit on whatever wheels you decide to use.

These wheels are 5 bolt on a 4.75 inch bolt pattern, the wrong backspacing is what causes the issue on the tie rod.

This is the style wheel I was referring to that needed to be mounted up side down on a tire machine to mount tires.

I remember them on 1962 Chevys and Canadian Pontiacs but not positive on what years.

I grabbed the picture off the internet, not my wheels.

Thanks

Don, please check out the "Any old tire guys" thread so hopefully you wont still think I'm B.S.ing you about the up side down wheels.

"Long side to the back" is the phrase that extremely, experienced guys use!!

Thanks
Randy

My reply there:

Thanks for the info, never heard of this before. I thought you were maybe talking about the older rims that took tubes and didn't work well with tubeless tires and some that also would flex enough to work the full wheel covers off the rim.

I just had 2 tires changed on my 14 inch 62 rims and the guy did it the normal way, broke the bead first on the face. Maybe the old tire changer equipment was not as good at this?

Don

Nope, no pics of the tin things. However, I do have a calendar in the garage of the 4 legged ones. [Clydesdales, the ones like in the Bud ads]

By the way, the '67 in your avatar looks a lot livelier than the '67 in mine.

Sorry, late to the party. I've got a set of '63 hubcaps, if by some miracle your friend hasn't sorted some out by now. Shipping would be from Vancouver BC
